Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Phagocytic properties of lung alveolar wall cells [PDF]
For the purpose to define the mechanism of heavy metal intoxication by inhalation, morphologic observations were made on rat lungs after nasal instillation of iron colloid particles of positive and negative electric charges. Histochemical observation was

STUDIES ON PHAGOCYTOSIS. [PDF]
The studies of Leishman, of Wright and Douglas, of Neufeld and Rimpau, of McFarland and Engle, and of others, have opened up a new field of investigation for the elucidation of the problem of the mechanism of immunity. The experiments that have been reported thus far have dealt almost entirely with the opsonic powers of the blood serum against ...

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

The involvement of MiR-1-clathrin pathway in the regulation of phagocytosis.
Phagocytosis, one of the most powerful immune responses, is a complicated process regulated by many factors. However the regulation of phagocytosis mediated by microRNAs has not been extensively investigated.

The effect of phagocytosis of poly(L-lactic acid) fragments on cellular morphology and viability [PDF]
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of phagocytosed poly(L-lactic acid) particles on the morpholgy and viability of phagocytes, mainly macrophages. Therefore, predegraded poly(L-lactic acid) (P-PLLA) and nontreated PLLA (N-PLLA) particles,

In normal (nontolerant) cells, CD14 is crucial for both LPS uptake and LPS signaling. In LPS‐tolerant cells, in which LPS‐induced TNF‐α and IFN‐β production is suppressed, there is a dramatic increase in surface CD14 expression. The overexpressed CD14 in LPS‐tolerant cells is responsible for the enhanced LPS uptake without inducing pro‐inflammatory ...

Syk activation during FcγR-mediated phagocytosis involves Syk palmitoylation and desulfenylation
Upon Fc gamma R–mediated phagocytosis, Syk is palmitoylated by DHHC5 and desulfenylated on nearby Cys residues, and both modifications are important for Syk phosphorylation and phagocytosis.
