Amanita phalloides is the most relevant mushroom intoxication leading to acute liver failure. The two principal groups of toxins, the amatoxins and the phallotoxins, are small oligopeptides highly resistant to chemical and physical influences.

Amatoxin and phallotoxin concentration in Amanita phalloides spores and tissues
Most of the fatal cases of mushroom poisoning are caused by Amanita phalloides . The amount of toxin in mushroom varies according to climate and environmental conditions. The aim of this study is to measure α -, β

Fungal systematics can feel overwhelming given the vast species diversity within this kingdom, with numerous subgroups at every taxonomic rank. This often creates a disconnect between the undertsnidng of fungal taxonomic diversity and their societal relevance.

A nanometer‐sized artificial basement membrane (A‐BM) is developed to replicate the barrier functions of the basement membrane and prevent cell migration. It is demonstrated that the outermost cationic surface charge of nanofilms can effectively inhibit endothelial cell migration and sprouting, allowing for the construction of 3D patterned vascular ...

TDNPs@AG (TAG), an aerogel dressing containing turmeric‐derived nanoparticles (TDNPs), enhances diabetic wound healing by continued controlled release of TDNPs, which reduce inflammation and oxidative stress. Owing to their bioregulatory properties, water–air balance, easy preparation, and storage capacity, TAG holds promise for tissue regeneration ...

Optionality for Indole‐based Peptide Stapling: hydroxypyrroloindoline, used regularly in reaction with cysteine to form a tryptathionine (Ttn) staple is found to react competitively with an indole to form a 2’2’‐bis‐indole tether (BITe). Judicious choice of protecting groups provides for chemoselectivity for optionality in terms of which staple is ...

Examining the associations between a generalist feeder and a highly toxic host
We used a variety of behavioral assays to assess the association between a generalist feeder and a highly toxic host fungus. Our results suggest that access to a resource with lower competition may help to maintain this association. Abstract Understanding the often antagonistic plant–herbivore interactions and how host defenses can influence herbivore ...

Relation of Toxicity and Conformation of Phallotoxins as Revealed by Optical Rotatory Dispersion Studies [PDF]
Natural variants and chemically modified derivatives of phalloidin have been found or prepared which show all degrees of toxicity. High toxicity persists if only three of the side chains are modified. Acetylation of two of the four OH groups of phalloidin leads to less toxic products, the triacetyl derivative is nontoxic.

Background. In spite of the scientific evidence supporting health advantages of mushrooms, some of them are seriously poisonous. The clinical picture of mushroom intoxication ranges from minor gastrointestinal symptoms to organ failure, such as liver failure and death. Method.
