Point Group Symmetry and Deformation Induced Symmetry Breaking of Superlattice Materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The point group symmetry of materials is closely related to their physical properties and quite important for material modeling. However, superlattice materials have more complex symmetry conditions than crystals due to their multilevel structural feature.

Phase change material thermal power generator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
An energy producing device, for example a submersible vehicle for descending or ascending to different depths within water or ocean, is disclosed. The vehicle comprises a temperature-responsive material to which a hydraulic fluid is associated.

Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) trajectories predict survival in trifluridine/tipiracil‐treated metastatic colorectal cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The authors applied joint/mixed models that predict mortality of trifluridine/tipiracil‐treated metastatic colorectal cancer patients based on circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) trajectories. Patients at high risk of death could be spared aggressive therapy with the prospect of a higher quality of life in their remaining lifetime, whereas patients with a ...

Materials science and engineering: New vision in the era of artificial intelligence [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Scientific discovery evolves from the experimental, through the theoretical and computational, to the current data-intensive paradigm. Materials science is no exception, especially for computational materials science. In recent years, great achievements have been made in the field of materials science and engineering (MSE). Here, we review the previous

Phase change material for temperature control and material storage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A phase change material comprising a mixture of water and deuterium oxide is described, wherein the mole fraction of deuterium oxide is selected so that the mixture has a selected phase change temperature within a range between 0.degree. C. and 4.degree.

Thermal and optical analysis of a passive heat recovery and storage system for greenhouse skin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The thermal performance of a greenhouse can be greatly affected by the thermal and optical properties of its envelope system. In this study, a novel skin for greenhouse consisting of ethene-co-tetrafluoroethene (ETFE) membrane and Phase Change Material ...

Integrative systems‐level analysis reveals a contextual crosstalk between hypoxia and global metabolism in human breast tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast tumor samples scored for metabolic deregulation (M1 to M3) were given a hypoxia score (HS). The highest HS occurred in patients with strongest metabolic deregulation (M3), supporting tumor aggressiveness. HS correlated with the highest number of metabolic pathways in M1. This suggests hypoxia to be an early event in metabolic deregulation.

Resonant cavities with phase-changing materials

open access: yesOptics Letters, 2017
Phase changing materials are commonly used for optical switching, limiting, and sensing. In many important cases, the change in the transmission characteristics of the optical material is caused by light-induced heating. We demonstrate that the incorporation of such optical materials in judiciously designed photonic structures can dramatically alter ...
