Some optimization and decision problems in proportional reinsurance

open access: yesRect@, 2016
Reinsurance is one of the tools that an insurer can use to mitigate the underwriting risk and then to control its solvency. In this paper, we focus on the proportional reinsurance arrangements and we examine several optimization and decision problems of ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Analysis of Tandem Queue with Multi-Server Stages and Group Service at the Second Stage

open access: yesAxioms
In this paper, we consider a tandem dual queuing system consisting of multi-server stages. Stage 1 is characterized by an infinite buffer, one-by-one service of customers, and an exponential distribution of service times.

An investigation of emerin and nuclear lamins: : Interactions, distribution, and role in cell cycle regulation, in cells derived from EDMD patients. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Emery Dreifuss muscular dystrophy (EDMD) is caused by mutations either in the gene encoding emerin or in the gene encoding A-type lamins (lamins A and C).

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

A Reliability Modeling Method Based on Phase-Type Distribution Aiming at Shock Model

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
The traditional shock model generally describes the magnitude of the cumulative damage caused by a random shock sequence and compares the magnitude with a predetermined threshold to obtain the failure time of a component.

Breaking the Rate-Loss Bound of Quantum Key Distribution with Asynchronous Two-Photon Interference

open access: yesPRX Quantum, 2022
Twin-field quantum key distribution can overcome the secret key capacity of repeaterless quantum key distribution via single-photon interference. However, to compensate for the channel fluctuations and lock the laser fluctuations, the techniques of phase
