Double topological phase singularities in highly absorbing ultra-thin film structures for ultrasensitive humidity sensing

open access: yesOpto-Electronic Advances
Phase singularities (PSs) in topological darkness-based sensors have received significant attention in optical sensing due to their rapid, ultra-sensitive, and label-free detection capabilities.

Non-perturbative orientifold transitions at the conifold

open access: yes, 2005
After orientifold projection, the conifold singularity in hypermultiplet moduli space of Calabi-Yau compactifications cannot be avoided by geometric deformations. We study the non-perturbative fate of this singularity in a local model involving O6-planes

Phase Field Modeling of Fast Crack Propagation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We present a continuum theory which predicts the steady state propagation of cracks. The theory overcomes the usual problem of a finite time cusp singularity of the Grinfeld instability by the inclusion of elastodynamic effects which restore selection of

Phase Transformation and Singularity Theory [PDF]

open access: yesPAMM, 2005
AbstractPhase transformation plays an important role in thermodynamics and materials science. Based on the theory of singularities, a new method to construct phase diagrams is presented. Analysing singularities on base of root sequences, see Tamaschke [16], will help to develop singularity graphs, where workings by H. Whitney, R. Thom, and V. I. Arnold

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Detecting phase singularities and rotor center trajectories based on the Hilbert transform of intraatrial electrograms in an atrial voxel model

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering, 2015
This work aimed at the detection of rotor centers within the atrial cavity during atrial fibrillation on the basis of phase singularities. A voxel based method was established which employs the Hilbert transform and the phase of unipolar electrograms ...

Realization of an all-optical zero to π cross-phase modulation jump [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We report on the experimental demonstration of an all-optical π cross-phase modulation jump. By performing a preselection, an optically induced unitary transformation, and then a postselection on the polarization degree of freedom, the phase of the ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Calabi-Yau Compactification of Type-IIB string and a Mass Formula of the Extreme Black Holes

open access: yes, 1995
Recently proposed mechanism of the black hole condensation at conifold singularity in type II string is an interesting idea from which we can interpret the phase of the universal moduli space of the string vacua.
