Myricetin as a Potential Adjuvant in Chemotherapy: Studies on the Inhibition of Human Glutathione Transferase A1–1

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2022
Glutathione transferases (GSTs) are a family of Phase II detoxification enzymes that are involved in the development of multi-drug resistance (MDR) phenomena toward chemotherapeutic agents.

Evaluating the Anti‐Oxidant and Anti‐Inflammatory Properties of Watercress Supplementation at Short‐Term Follow‐Up: A Systematic Review of Randomized Controlled Trials

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 6, June 2025.
This systematic review highlights the antioxidant and anti‐inflammatory effects of watercress (WC) supplementation in randomized controlled trials. Despite the heterogeneity in WC formulations, dosage, follow‐up, and outcomes, WC demonstrated improvements in biomarkers such as IL‐1, IL‐6, TNF‐α, and antioxidant enzymes.

Oxidative Stress in Antigen Processing and Presentation

open access: yesMedComm – Oncology, Volume 4, Issue 2, June 2025.
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) play a crucial role in antigen processing and presentation, essential for linking innate and adaptive immunity. While balanced ROS levels promote immune function, excess ROS can disrupt antigen recognition, resulting in immune dysfunction.

Role of Sulforaphane in Protection of Gastrointestinal Tract Against H. pylori and NSAID-Induced Oxidative Stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background: Sulforaphane (SFN), a phytochemical found in abundance in broccoli sprouts, potently induces a variety of antioxidant enzymes, and thereby protects cells from injury induced by various kinds of oxidative stresses.

Methyl jasmonate and 1-methylcyclopropene treatment effects on quinone reductase inducing activity and post-harvest quality of broccoli. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Effect of pre-harvest methyl jasmonate (MeJA) and post-harvest 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) treatments on broccoli floret glucosinolate (GS) concentrations and quinone reductase (QR, an in vitro anti-cancer biomarker) inducing activity were evaluated two

Direct Inhibition of GSDMD by PEITC Reduces Hepatocyte Pyroptosis and Alleviates Acute Liver Injury in Mice

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
Acute liver injury (ALI), often caused by viruses, alcohol, drugs, etc., is one of the most common clinical liver diseases. Although pyroptosis plays an important role in ALI, there is still a lack of effective clinical drugs related to this mechanism ...

Thiourea‐Based Compounds Effectiveness Against the Growth of Mycobacterium kansasii: Synthesis, Biological Activity, and Computational Analysis

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 10, Issue 16, April 25, 2025.
Fifty thiourea derivatives are synthesized and evaluated against Mycobacterium kansasii. Compounds 2, 47, and 49 demonstrate potent extra‐ and intracellular activity without causing macrophage cytotoxicity, even against the hypervirulent strains. Structure–activity relationships and in silico analyses highlight favorable molecular features and predict ...

Nuclear factor-kappaB sensitizes to benzyl isothiocyanate-induced antiproliferation in p53-deficient colorectal cancer cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Benzyl isothiocyanate (BITC), a dietary isothiocyanate derived from cruciferous vegetables, inhibits the proliferation of colorectal cancer cells, most of which overexpress β-catenin as a result of mutations in the genes for adenomatous polyposis coli or

Current status and perspectives of esophageal cancer: a comprehensive review

open access: yesCancer Communications, Volume 45, Issue 3, Page 281-331, March 2025.
Abstract Esophageal cancer (EC) continues to be a significant global health concern, with two main subtypes: esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and esophageal adenocarcinoma. Prevention and changes in etiology, improvements in early detection, and refinements in the treatment have led to remarkable progress in the outcomes of EC patients in the past ...

Transcriptional control of glyoxalase 1 by Nrf2 provides a stress-responsive defence against dicarbonyl glycation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Abnormal cellular accumulation of the dicarbonyl metabolite MG (methylglyoxal) occurs on exposure to high glucose concentrations, inflammation, cell aging and senescence.
