PHENOL COEFFICIENTS

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Public Health, 1921
The author states that a phenol coefficient indicates relative germicidal efficiency under laboratory conditions only, and has no practical value. Users of disinfectants ordinarily “follow directions,” and employ the dilutions recommended by the manufacturers.

Replacing 100% of phenol in phenolic adhesive formulations with lignin

open access: yes, 2017
Lignin, produced as a byproduct of pulp and paper and bioethanol industries, is a polyphenolic compound that has excellent potential to be used as phenol replacement in phenolic adhesive formulation.

Aberrant expression of nuclear prothymosin α contributes to epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nuclear prothymosin α inhibits epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in lung cancer by increasing Smad7 acetylation and competing with Smad2 for binding to SNAI1, TWIST1, and ZEB1 promoters. In early‐stage cancer, ProT suppresses TGF‐β‐induced EMT, while its loss in the nucleus in late‐stage cancer leads to enhanced EMT and poor prognosis.

Probing the Thermal Deoxygenation of Graphene Oxide using High Resolution In Situ X-Ray based Spectroscopies [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Physical Chemistry C, 2011, 115, 17009-17019, 2011
Despite the recent developments in Graphene Oxide due to its importance as a host precursor of Graphene, the detailed electronic structure and its evolution during the thermal reduction remain largely unknown, hindering its potential applications.

Early metastasis is characterized by Gr1+ cell dysregulation and is inhibited by immunomodulatory nanoparticles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer metastasis is associated with myeloid cell dysregulation and the lung‐specific accumulation of tumor‐supportive Gr1+ cells. Gr1+ cells support metastasis, in part, through a CHI3L1‐mediated mechanism, which can be targeted and inhibited with cargo‐free, polymeric nanoparticles.

Laboratory Studies on the Carbon Kinetic Isotope Effects on the Production Mechanism of Particulate Phenolic Compounds Formed by Toluene Photooxidation: A Tool to Constrain Reaction Pathways [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Compound-specific stable carbon isotope ratios for phenolic compounds in secondary particulate organic matter (POM) formed by photooxidation of toluene were studied. Secondary POM generated by photooxidation of toluene using a continuous-flow reactor and an 8 cubic meter indoor smog chamber was collected, and then extracted with acetonitrile.

Bioavailability of phenols from a phenol-enriched olive oil [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Nutrition, 2011
Phenolic compounds are one of the main reasons behind the healthy properties of virgin olive oil (VOO). However, their daily intake from VOO is low compared with that obtained from other phenolic sources. Therefore, the intake of VOO enriched with its own phenolic compounds could be of interest to increase the daily dose of these beneficial compounds ...

Phenol removal from industrial wastewaters: a short review

open access: yes, 2015
The toxicity of phenol even at low concentrations in industrial effluents is high enough to meet its needs for separation. In this paper, a review will be carried out on the traditional techniques and recent advances in the separation of phenol from its ...
