A Simplified Assay for Cryptococcal Phenoloxidase
Mycologia, 1986factor (Rhodes et al., 1982). The standard procedure for assaying phenoloxidase activity described by Polacheck et al. (1982) requires extensive sample preparation. Appropriately grown cells must be broken gently by vortexing with glass beads to minimize loss of activity and the membranes collected by ultracentrifugation.

Mycobacterium leprae and phenoloxidase activity.
Microbios, 1979Our earlier studies indicated that the enzyme o-diphenoloxidase was absent in Mycobacterium leprae separated from depromatous human tissues. At that time the bacilli were not available from any other source. The existence or absence of this enzyme in M. leprae recovered from infected armadillo tissues were reinvestigated.

Genetic Variants Affecting Phenoloxidase Activity in Drosophila melanogaster
Biochemical Genetics, 1997In Drosophila melanogaster, two new variants affecting the activity of phenoloxidase were found in natural populations at Gomel in Belorussia and at Krasnodar in Russia. Prophenoloxidases, A1 and A3, in these variants had the same mobilities on native electrophoresis as the wild type.

Acta histochemica, 1983Using 10 microns thick cryostat-slides of spleen and gut from white rats the following substances (in 2 different concentrations) were tested as substrates for the enzyme phenoloxidase compared with dihydroxyphenylalanine: pyrogallic acid, resorcin, 2.4-dinitrophenol, tyraminhydrochloride, o-cresol, and epinephrine.

Although studies have been performed in large-bodied insects such as the moth Galleria mellonella, less is known about clotting in Drosophila melanogaster, the insect most useful for genetic and molecular analyses of innate immunity.
