Lipoprotein-induced phenoloxidase-activity in tarantula hemocyanin
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Proteins and Proteomics, 2015Phenoloxidases play vital roles in invertebrate innate immune reactions, wound closure and sclerotization processes in arthropods. In chelicerates, where phenoloxidases are lacking, phenoloxidase-activity can be induced in the oxygen carrier hemocyanin in vitro by proteolytic cleavage, incubation with the artificial inducer SDS, or lipids.

Phenoloxidase activity of phenol-degrading bacteria
2010 International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedical Technology, 2010In order to study phenoloxidase (PO) activity of the phenol-degrading bacteria, the carbon source of isolation culture medium adopts artificial phenol mixture. Stenotrophomonas maltophilia K279a is isolated from coal chemical industry wastewater. The optimum conditions for PO production are phenol 1000mg/L, temperature 30–34°C and PH 7–7.5.

Identification and isolation of endogenous insect phenoloxidase inhibitors
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1992Inhibitors of phenoloxidase were identified in pupae of the housefly, Musca domestica L. The phenoloxidase inhibitors were purified from final instar pupae of the housefly by a combination of ammonium sulfate fractionation, ion-exchange chromatography, gel filtration and reverse-phase high performance liquid chromatography.

Phenoloxidases in Portabella Mushrooms
Journal of Food Science, 1997ABSTRACT Tyrosinase, laccase, and peroxidase activities were detected in crude extracts from commercial Portabella mushrooms. Tyrosinase was present in larger amounts than either laccase or peroxidase. Catechol showed the greatest activity as a substrate for tyrosinase while diaminobenzidine was found to be a good substrate for ...

Phenoloxidase System of the Blowfly, Calliphora erythrocephala
Science, 1964In Calliphora larvae, an inactive precursor of the enzyme phenoloxidase is present in the hemolymph. A special activator enzyme is localized in the cuticle. When phenoloxidase precursor is allowed to react with the activator, it yields a soluble enzyme having the characteristics mainly of a diphenoloxidase.

A fungal phenoloxidase (tyrosinase) involved in pentachlorophenol degradation
Biotechnology Letters, 2004Amylomyces rouxii eliminated 85% of initial pentachlorophenol (PCP) at 12.5 mg l(-1) when grown with 0.1 g tyrosine l(-1), but only 55% without tyrosine. Addition of tyrosine in the culture medium increased the monophenolase activity by 1.8-fold. Tyrosinase is thus indicated to be the phenoloxidase involved in PCP degradation by A. rouxii .

[The method of demonstrating phenoloxidase].
Acta histochemica, 1976It is reported on the evidence of phenoloxidase containing cells (=POZ) under various experimental conditions in as well spleen and small gut of white rats as small gut and skin of rabbit. A modified technic is described which gives a shortened incubation time and a regulary pigmentation of the reactive cells.

The cuticular phenoloxidase in Drosophila virilis
Journal of Insect Physiology, 1969The cuticular phenoloxidase in the white puparia of Drosophila virilis was studied. The enzyme is firmly bound to the structure of the cuticle and could not be solubilized from the cuticle. Acetone-treated cuticular preparation oxidizes effectively hydroquinone, pyrogallol, p-aminophenol, dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine, and N-acetyldopamine.

Effect of Bisulfite on Lobster Shell Phenoloxidase
Journal of Food Science, 1989ABSTRACT The role of bisulfite inhibition on the phenoloxidase (PO) catalyzed melanosis reaction in lobster was investigated. Bisulfite appears to inhibit melanosis by two mechanisms: (1) by reacting with intermediate quinones in the melanosis reaction, forming sulfoquinones, and (2) by irreversibly reacting with PO causing complete ...
