Flavor profiles of monovarietal virgin olive oils produced in the Oriental region of Morocco

open access: yesOilseeds and fats, crops and lipids, 2017
The purpose of this study is the evaluation of flavor profiles of monovarietal virgin olive oils (VOO) produced in the Oriental region of Morocco via the characterization of volatile compounds, using SPME-GC/MS technique, and the determination of total ...

Prenatal Exposure to Environmental Phenols: Concentrations in Amniotic Fluid and Variability in Urinary Concentrations during Pregnancy

open access: yesEnvironmental Health Perspectives, 2013
Background: Maternal urinary biomarkers are often used to assess fetal exposure to phenols and their precursors. Their effectiveness as a measure of exposure in epidemiological studies depends on their variability during pregnancy and their ability to ...

Simple phenol and phenolic compounds in food flavor

open access: yesC R C Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition, 1978
Simple phenol and phenolic compounds occur in a vast portion of our diet. This review attempts to discuss their occurrences relative to our food supply. In addition, their chemical, nutritional, and sensory properties are explored, as well as methods for their isolation, identification, and quantitation.

Biologically‐Inspired Melt Electrowriting for the Generation of Highly Biomimetic Functional Myocardium

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, melt electrowriting is used to fabricate a 3D printed scaffold design that generates engineered cardiac tissues with in‐plane contraction, mimicking natural myocardium. It is shown that these tissues display advanced maturation and functionality.

The Selenium Supplementation Influences Olive Tree Production and Oil Stability Against Oxidation and Can Alleviate the Water Deficiency Effects

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
Foliar fertilization with selenium (Se) may well be beneficial in increasing the nutritional and qualitative values of food in Se-deficient regions such as the Mediterranean Basin, and may contribute to an increase in drought resistance in plants.

Engineered Peptides‐Based Hybrid‐Nested Microneedle Effectively Treat Biofilm‐Infected Diabetic Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid‐nested microneedle/cryogel scaffold (MQW‐CMg‐MOF) is designed for efficient biofilm removal and accelerated healing of diabetic wounds. The scaffold shows substantial biofilm removal in vitro and in a preclinical diabetic swine biofilm‐infected wound model compared to the control.

Microbial degradation of phenol and phenolic derivatives

open access: yesEngineering in Life Sciences, 2013
Phenol and its derivatives are one of the largest groups of environmental pollutants due to their presence in many industrial effluents and broad application as antibacterial and antifungal agents. A number of microbial species possess enzyme systems that are applicable for the decomposition of various aliphatic and aromatic toxic compounds.
