Variation in Microbiome Composition and Faecal Metabolites Are Associated With Differential Susceptibility to DSS‐Induced Colitis

open access: yesImmunology, EarlyView.
C57BL/6 mice from Charles River Laboratories (CR) have enhanced mucosal immune action relative to C57BL/6 mice from Jackson Laboratories (JAX). CR mice are more susceptible to severe DSS‐induced colitis than JAX mice. Co‐housing transfers colitis susceptibility from CR mice to JAX mice.

2-Methoxy-2-phenylacetic acid

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E Structure Reports Online, 2003
2-Methoxy-2-phenylacetic acid, C9H10O3, forms helical columns of single enantiomers linked by hydrogen bonding between the acidic proton of one molecule and the methoxy O atom of a neighbouring molecule, to give an overall racemic structure.

B(OCH2CF3)3-mediated direct amidation of pharmaceutically relevant building blocks in cyclopentyl methyl ether [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The use of B(OCH2CF3)3 for mediating direct amidation reactions of a wide range of pharmaceutically relevant carboxylic acids and amines is described, including numerous heterocycle-containing examples.

Host‐Induced Silencing of Rhizoctonia Solani 5‐Enolpyruvylshikimate‐3‐Phosphate Synthase Impairs Its Virulence in Rice

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sheath blight disease of rice caused by the fungal pathogen R. solani AG1‐IA remains a big threat to rice production worldwide. A limited genetic variation in rice for tolerance to this pathogen and little success in understanding how it defeats host defence are major reasons behind it.

Production of a recombinant membrane protein in an Escherichia coli strain for the whole cell biosynthesis of phenylacetic acids

open access: yesBiotechnology Reports, 2015
The styrene oxide isomerase (SOI) represents a membrane-bound enzyme of the microbial styrene degradation pathway and has been discussed as promising biocatalyst. It catalyzes the isomerization of styrene oxide to phenylacetaldehyde. In this study a styC

Catabolism of phenylacetic acid in Penicillium rubens. Proteome-wide analysis in response to the benzylpenicillin side chain precursor [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Biosynthesis of benzylpenicillin in filamentous fungi (e.g. Penicillium chrysogenum - renamed as Penicillium rubens- and Aspergillus nidulans) depends on the addition of CoA-activated forms of phenylacetic acid to isopenicillin N.

Protein–phenolic interactions and inhibition of glycation – combining a systematic review and experimental models for enhanced physiological relevance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: While antiglycative capacity has been attributed to (poly)phenols, the exact mechanism of action remains unclear. Studies so far are often relying on supra-physiological concentrations and use of non-bioavailable compounds.

The effects of a (poly)phenol‐rich food intervention on markers of exercise‐induced inflammation and oxidative stress: A randomised controlled trial

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract This study examined whether consuming a (poly)phenol‐rich food before strenuous muscle‐damaging exercise can modify post‐exercise markers of inflammation and oxidative stress. Using a double‐blinded, randomised, placebo‐controlled, between‐subjects design, 26 recreationally active males (n = 15) and females (n = 11) consumed higher‐(poly ...

Chemogenetic activation of mammalian brain neurons expressing insect Ionotropic Receptors by systemic ligand precursor administration

open access: yesCommunications Biology
Chemogenetic approaches employing ligand-gated ion channels are advantageous regarding manipulation of target neuronal population functions independently of endogenous second messenger pathways.
