The New Products from Brown Seaweeds: Fucoxanthin and Phlorotannins
2022The brown seaweed industry has been established to produce three major traditional products including alginate, mannitol and iodine, however, is facing challenges to expand more product profiles. The innovation of the brown seaweed industry has been extended to minor bioactive compounds, such as fucoxanthin and phlorotannins, by using integrated ...

Phlorotannins in Ecklonia cava extract inhibit matrix metalloproteinase activity
Life Sciences, 2006Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) inhibitors have been identified as potential therapeutic candidates for metastasis, arthritis, chronic inflammation and wrinkle formation. For the first time here we report a detailed study on the inhibitory effects of phlorotannins in brown algae, Ecklonia cava (EC) on MMP activities in cultured human cell lines. A novel

Phlorotannins from the brown alga Cystophora torulosa
Phytochemistry, 1997Abstract A number of phlorotannins were isolated at their peracetyl derivatives and identified by means of spectral analysis. The new compounds belong to the class of hydroxylated branched fucophlorethols and bisfucophlorethols lacking a 1,2,3-triphenoxy-5-acetoxybenzene moiety.

Characterization of Phlorotannins from Brown Algae by LC-HRMS
2015Phlorotannins are a class of polyphenols found in brown seaweeds that have significant potential for use as therapeutics, owing to their wide range of bioactivities. Molecular characterization of phlorotannin-enriched extracts is challenging due to the extreme sample complexity and the wide range of molecular weights observed.

Nutritional Significance of seaweed phlorotannins
Polyphenols, which are bioactive substances produced through acetate malonate pathway are present in significant amounts in brown algae. The phloroglucinol based polymers can be classified into different categories based on their bonding patterns and display a wide variety of structural complexities.openaire +1 more source
