Study of Epigenetic Properties of Poly(HexaMethylene Biguanide) Hydrochloride (PHMB) [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 2014
Poly(HexaMethylene Biguanide) hydrochloride (PHMB) CAS No. [32289-58-0] is a particularly effective member of the biguanides antiseptic chemical group, and has been in use since the early fifties in numerous applications. It has been proposed that PHMB be classified as a category 3 carcinogen although PHMB is not genotoxic.

PHMB: an effective antimicrobial in wound bioburden management

British Journal of Nursing, 2012
The effective management of bacterial bioburden is an essential element of wound care. Recent years have seen the increased use of topical antimicrobial dressings to control colonisation and infection, yet there is concern that some may inhibit wound healing and may have systemic sequelae ( World Union of Wound Healing Societies (WUWHS), 2008 ).

Kinetics of Adsorption and Desorption of PHMB from Textile Surfaces

AATCC Journal of Research, 2021
Adsorption and desorption studies were done of polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) onto two different types of textile fiber surfaces. Based on these studies and mathematical modelling, the rate constants were calculated. Two different experimental conditions were used to simulate laundering, namely wet-to-wet and dry-to-wet.
