Kinetics of Adsorption and Desorption of PHMB from Textile Surfaces

AATCC Journal of Research, 2021
Adsorption and desorption studies were done of polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) onto two different types of textile fiber surfaces. Based on these studies and mathematical modelling, the rate constants were calculated. Two different experimental conditions were used to simulate laundering, namely wet-to-wet and dry-to-wet.

PHMB: an effective antimicrobial in wound bioburden management

British Journal of Nursing, 2012
The effective management of bacterial bioburden is an essential element of wound care. Recent years have seen the increased use of topical antimicrobial dressings to control colonisation and infection, yet there is concern that some may inhibit wound healing and may have systemic sequelae ( World Union of Wound Healing Societies (WUWHS), 2008 ).

Poly(hexamethylene biguanide) (PHMB) as high-efficiency antibacterial coating for titanium substrates

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2021
Bacterial associated infection is a remaining urgent challenge in clinic application of metallic implants and devices. Here, we developed a new strategy to combat the bacterial associated infection of titanium alloy (TC4). Novel phosphonate/active ester block polymers (pDEMMP-b-pNHSMA) with identical phosphonate segments (DP = 29) as the metal ...

Polyhexamethylene Biguanide (PHMB) in the Treatment of Experimental Fusarium Keratomycosis

Cornea, 1997
We wanted to determine whether topical polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) 0.02% was effective in the treatment of experimental Fusarium keratomycosis in rabbits.Fusarium solani keratomycosis was induced in the eyes of 12 New Zealand white rabbits. The rabbits were treated with PHMB 0.02% in one eye and placebo in the other eye for 6 days.

Preparation and characterization of PHMB-based multifunctional microcapsules

Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochemical and Engineering Aspects, 2017
Abstract Insects and microbes can cause disease and corrode materiel deployed in humid environments. Materials with multifunctional properties are highly desirable to the Army to create textile products that would inherently mitigate these issues and decrease Soldier load.

Case 14: Octenilin Wound Gel versus betadine/PHMB gel

Journal of Wound Care, 2016
Here, a clinician compares 4 weeks of treatment with Prontosan Wound Gel with a subsequent 4 weeks of octenilin Wound Gel on a complex diabetic foot ulcer prone to recurrent infection. The data show that, following the switch to octenilin, the previously static wound started to heal.

Vakuumtherapie mit PHMB Gaze zur Behandlung postoperativer subkutaner Bauchdeckeninfektionen

coloproctology, 2014

Development of a PHMB hydrogel‐modified wound scaffold dressing with antibacterial activity

Wound Repair and Regeneration, 2020
AbstractCurrent wound scaffold dressing constructs can facilitate wound healing but do not exhibit antibacterial activity, resulting in high infection rates. We aimed to endow wound scaffold dressing with anti‐infective ability by polyhexamethylenebiguanide (PHMB).

PHMB as a topical antimicrobial in veterinary wound management

The Veterinary Nurse, 2011
There are currently no new antibiotics on the horizon, and this fact should cause concern for all involved in both human and veterinary medicine. The use of topical antimicrobials should be considered as the alternative to systemic antibiotics in wound infection in order to minimize their use. Polyhexamethylene biguanide (PHMB) is a relative newcomer
