Early Musical Predictions in the Brain as Indexed by the Mismatch Negativity—From Acoustic Deviants to Cognitive Musical Errors

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 64, Issue 5, September 2026.
Over the past two decades, ecologically valid music paradigms have shown that mismatch negativity (MMN) reflects a primitive musical intelligence, indexing hierarchical auditory predictions in music that parallel those observed in speech. MMN captures processing from early sensory detection in superior temporal cortices to higher order frontal ...

Cross‐Night Modulation of Change Detection ERPs to Foreign Speech Sound Features During N2 Sleep

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 64, Issue 6, September 2026.
During N2 sleep, Finnish‐speaking adults naïve to tonal languages showed auditory change detection responses to tonal deviations, as indexed by P2 and P450. Across four consecutive exposure nights, P450 amplitude was reduced on Night 4 compared to Night 1, whereas P2 amplitude and latencies remained unchanged.

Decoding and vocabulary improvements mediate sustained gains in reading comprehension: Evidence from a randomised controlled trial of a multicomponent reading intervention

open access: yesJournal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, Volume 67, Issue 9, Page 1562-1575, September 2026.
Background Reading comprehension is critical for academic success, yet many children with persistent decoding difficulties struggle to achieve it.
