Calcium acetate or calcium carbonate for hyperphosphatemia of hemodialysis patients: a meta-analysis.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
BackgroundHigh levels of serum phosphorus both at baseline and during follow-up are associated with increased mortality in dialysis patients, and administration of phosphate binders was independently associated with improved survival among hemodialysis ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Inhibition of hydrogen evolution in aluminum-phosphate refractory binders

open access: yes, 2012
The thesis deals with the possibilities of inhibition of the reaction of aluminium-phosphate binders with wear iron, which is contained in bauxite. This material is mixed with phosphate binders to form refractories.

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Chemical Reactivity of Aluminium-based Pharmaceutical Compounds used as Phosphate-binders

open access: yes, 1989
Several aluminium-containing substances, including antacids used as phosphate-binders in treating renal failure, have been analysed in-vitro under different pH conditions for the release of Al3+ ions and for binding of phosphate.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Phosphate binders : new products and challenges

open access: yes, 2006
Optimal phosphate control in dialysis patients is extremely challenging. A growing awareness of the deleterious effect of mineral metabolism imbalances together with the lack of a satisfactory explanation for the exaggerated mortality rate in patients ...
