Muscle phosphofructokinase deficiency [PDF]
To the Editor: A late-onset myopathic variant of phosphofructokinase (PFK) deficiency has been described in rare patients of Ashkenazic descent1,2 and proposed as a possible unique disorder on the basis of ethnic and genetic considerations.3 A recent article published by Sivakumar et al.4 provides elements to question this hypothesis.

Muscle Phosphofructokinase Deficiency
Archives of Neurology, 1967The clinical hallmarks of muscle phosphorylase deficiency (McArdle's disease) are muscle cramps and exercise intolerance, contracture following ischemic work, and episodic myoglobinuria. We have encountered a patient with all these symptoms who proved to lack muscle phosphofructokinase (PFK) rather than phosphorylase.

Lithium inhibition of phosphofructokinase
Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry, 1981The mode of action of lithium in prophylaxis of recurrent affective disorder is unknown although it has been suggested that lithium might compete with magnesium in magnesium dependent processes. We have previously shown pyruvate kinase to be inhibited by lithium and the present study demonstrates a small inhibition by lithium of phosphofructokinase ...

Properties of yeast phosphofructokinase
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Enzymology, 1970Abstract The rate of conversion of Fru-6-P to Fru-1,6-P2 catalyzed by phosphofructokinase ATP: d -Fru -6-P 1-phosphotransferase, EC 2.7.1.11) is regulated by the inhibition of its activity by a high concentration of one of its substrates (ATP) and the relief of this inhibition by various effector metabolites.

Muscle Phosphofructokinase Deficiency
Archives of Neurology, 1973The sixth case, to our knowledge, of phosphofructokinase deficiency is reported in a 20-year-old, otherwise healthy, man. The clinical presentation consisted of exercise intolerance, muscle pain, and elevated blood levels of muscle enzymes. The abnormality in the muscle was confirmed with electromyography, ischemic exercise testing, light microscopy ...

Isoenzymes of human phosphofructokinase
Clinica Chimica Acta, 1980Human liver phosphofructokinase has been isolated in order to obtain antibodies against human liver phosphofructokinase. With the antiserum it could be shown in human liver that two types of phosphofructokinase exist with no subunits in common. Leucocytes, erythrocytes and kidney also possess the liver (L-) type subunit and a small amount of L-type is ...

Cold labile phosphofructokinase
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1971Abstract Phosphofructokinase from chicken liver undergoes reversible inactivation at low temperature. The rate of the inactivation increases with decrease in temperature. The cold inactivation is stimulated by monovalent anions or ATP, but prevented by polyvalent anions or fructose 1,6-di-P. Results of sucrose density gradient centrifugation indicate

Affinity chromatography of phosphofructokinase
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1976Abstract The behavior of mammalian phosphofructokinase on immobilized adenine nucleotides was investigated. Three different insolubilized ligands were compared using a pure rabbit muscle phosphofructokinase. N 6 -[(6-aminohexyl)-carbamoyl-methyl]-ATP-Sepharose bound at least 90 times more enzyme than either N 6 -(6-aminohexyl)-AMP-agarose or ATP ...
