Detection of virulence factors and beta-lactamase encoding genes among the clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa [PDF]
Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa has emerged as a significant opportunistic bacterial pathogen that causes nosocomial infections in healthcare settings resulting in treatment failure throughout the world. This study was carried out to compare the relatedness between virulence characteristics and \b{eta}-lactamase encoding genes producing Pseudomonas ...

The Phospholipases A of Epidermis
Phospholipases A have been characterized in fetal rat epidermis. Both a calcium dependent phospholipase A with pH optimum of 8.5 and a calcium independent enzyme with a pH optimum of 4.5 were found. Activity against both acyl groups of phosphatidyl choline were found for both enzymes and the findings suggested that the acid enzyme (pH 4.5) is primarily

Influence of Lipid Heterogeneity and Phase Behavior on Phospholipase A2 Action at the Single Molecule Level [PDF]
We monitored the action of phospholipase A2 (PLA2) on L- and D-dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC) Langmuir monolayers by mounting a Langmuir-trough on a wide-field fluorescence microscope with single molecule sensitivity. This made it possible to directly visualize the activity and diffusion behavior of single PLA2 molecules in a heterogeneous ...

Abstract Objectives To assess the Candida species occurrence rate and concentration in periodontal pockets in chronic periodontitis (CP) by meta‐analysis. Materials and Methods A search was performed of articles published between January 1, 2010, and October 1, 2020, in English and in Russian, in the electronic databases MEDLINE‐PubMed, Google Scholar,

The present study suggests that the intake of total phytosterols (PSs), stigmasterol, ß‐sitosterol, ß‐sitostanol and campestanol were inversely associated with the prevalence of obesity. In addition, lower obesity risk for total PSs and PSs subgroups differed for the gender. These results deserve to be further verified in cohort studies.

Phospholipase A Activates Hemostasis
Background Phospholipases A 2 (PLA 2 ) are aggressive enzymes that can destroy phospholipids of cell membranes. The resulting cell fragments trigger the kallikrein—mediated contact phase of coagulation. The aim of the present study was to expose citrated

Shapes and Positions of Black Hole Shadows in Accretion Disks and Spin Parameters of Black Holes [PDF]
Can we determine a spin parameter of a black hole by observation of a black hole shadow in an accretion disk? In order to answer this question, we make a qualitative analysis and a quantitative analysis of a shape and a position of a black hole shadow casted by a rotating black hole on an optically thick accretion disk and its dependence on an angular ...

Relationship between NAFLD and coronary artery disease: A Mendelian randomization study
Abstract Background and Aims There is an ongoing debate on whether NAFLD is an active contributor or an innocent bystander in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease (CAD). The aim of the present study was to assess the causal relationship between NAFLD and CAD.
