Group V Secreted Phospholipase A2 Induces the Release of Proangiogenic and Antiangiogenic Factors by Human Neutrophils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Secreted phospholipases A2 (sPLA2s) are extracellular enzymes that catalyze the release of free fatty acids and lysophospholipids from membrane phospholipids and also bind to different receptors (e.g., PLA2R1 or integrins).

GPI-AP release in cellular, developmental, and reproductive biology

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2016
Glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored proteins (GPI-APs) contain a covalently linked GPI anchor located on outer cell membranes. GPI-APs are ubiquitously conserved from protozoa to vertebrates and are critical for physiological events such as development,

In vitro differential activity of phospholipases and acid proteinases of clinical isolates of Candida.

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, 2011
INTRODUCTION Candida yeasts are commensals; however, if the balance of normal flora is disrupted or the immune defenses are compromised, Candida species can cause disease manifestations. Several attributes contribute to the virulence and pathogenicity of

Designing New Natural‐Mimetic Phosphatidic Acid: a Versatile and Innovative Synthetic Strategy for Glycerophospholipid Research

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Accepted Article.
Glycerophospholipids (GPLs) play important roles in cellular compartmentalization and signaling. Among them, phosphatidic acids (PA) exist as many distinct species depending on acyl chain composition, each one potentially displaying unique signaling function.

Lipid species affect morphology of endoplasmic reticulum: a sea urchin oocyte model of reversible manipulation

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2019
The ER is a large multifunctional organelle of eukaryotic cells. Malfunction of the ER in various disease states, such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, often correlates with alterations ...

Modification of lecithin-based emulsions with phospholipases

open access: yesCyTA - Journal of Food, 2020
Phospholipases have been used in different food processes, but mainly on degumming vegetable oils. More recently, the use of these enzymes has been extended to the manufacture of bread and dairy products. However, little is known on phospholipases effect

Action of phospholipase A2 and phospholipase C on Escherichia coli

open access: yesArchives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1974
The action of exogenous phospholipases on Escherichia coli has been examined. Cells harvested in late log phase were found to be completely resistant to the action of phospholipases A2 and C. Treatment of cells with Tris and EDTA was required to make the phospholipids in the cell accessible to these phospholipases.

Growth Hormone Promotes Lipolysis and Impairs Insulin Sensitivity by Activating the ERK/HSL Signaling Pathway in Bovine Adipocytes

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This study was to evaluate the role of GH in lipolysis and insulin sensitivity in bovine adipocytes and clarify the underlying mechanism. Our findings demonstrate that GH activates ERK/HSL signaling pathway, promotes lipolysis, and impairs insulin sensitivity in bovine adipocytes.

Phospholipases C and A2 control lysosome-mediated IL-1 beta secretion: Implications for inflammatory processes.

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2004
Blocking the activity of IL-1 beta has entered the clinical arena of treating autoimmune diseases. However, a successful outcome of this approach requires a clear definition of the mechanisms controlling IL-1 beta release. These are still unclear as IL-1
