Study of the transfer of phospholipids from the endoplasmic reticulum to the outer and inner mitochondrial membranes

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1971
Isolated mitochondria cannot synthesize their own phospholipids, there is only an exchange between exogenous and mitochondrial phospholipid fatty acids.

Charged cell membrane in electrolyte [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
An effect of membrane surface charge on mechanical properties of the phospholipid bilayer membrane and pores formation is considered. It is shown that the outer and inner surfaces of the phospholipid membrane is always subject to tension, regardless of magnitude and sign of the charges on its surface.

Engineering Magnetotactic Bacteria as Medical Microrobots

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetotactic bacteria (MTB) are living microorganisms that produce magnetosomes for navigation using the Earth's geomagnetic field. Their built‐in magnetic components, along with their intrinsic and/or modified biological functions, make them one of the most promising platforms for making future living and programmable microrobots.

Head group-independent interaction of phospholipids with bile salts: a fluorescence and EPR study

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2000
: Bile salts are essential for phospholipid secretion into the bile. To study the relevance of the structure of phospholipids for their interaction with bile salts, we used spin-labeled or fluorescent phospholipid analogues of different head groups and ...

Formulation and Characterization of Novel Ionizable and Cationic Lipid Nanoparticles for the Delivery of Splice‐Switching Oligonucleotides

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) of unconventional composition and defined structures are investigated as small oligonucleotide carriers. A composition is identified that outperforms Onpattro in cargo delivery to HeLa cells. The structure of these LNPs resembles a micellar cubic phase not commonly associated with high‐performing LNPs.

Connexin channels and phospholipids: association and modulation

open access: yesBMC Biology, 2009
Background For membrane proteins, lipids provide a structural framework and means to modulate function. Paired connexin hemichannels form the intercellular channels that compose gap junction plaques while unpaired hemichannels have regulated functions in

Therapeutic Potential of Manuka Honey Microbubble Dressing in Wound Management

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
The manuka honey microbubble dressing innovation utilizes high‐density stainless steel mesh technology to generate microscopic honey bubbles achieving S. aureus elimination by fine‐tuning factors such as microbubble size, MH microbubble consumption, and treatment duration. This pioneering approach transforms traditional wound healing and may reduce the
