Efficacy of Combined 5-Fluorouracil and Photodynamic Therapy in Glioma Spheroids

open access: yes, 2018
Standard treatment regimens consisting of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy have proven ineffective for the treatment of high-grade gliomas such as glioblastoma multiforme (GBM).

Sonodynamic therapy with chemo-radiotherapy in high-grade brainstem gliomas: A prospective phase IIa clinical trial

open access: yesPhotodiagnosis and Photodynamic Therapy
The treatment of high-grade brainstem gliomas (HBSGs), which are a type of malignant neoplasm, is challenging. There is a need to develop novel and effective therapeutic approaches for HBSGs. This study analyzed the data between sonodynamic therapy (SDT)

Key Role of Human ABC Transporter ABCG2 in Photodynamic Therapy and Photodynamic Diagnosis

open access: yesAdvances in Pharmacological Sciences, 2010
Accumulating evidence indicates that ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter ABCG2 plays a key role in regulating the cellular accumulation of porphyrin derivatives in cancer cells and thereby affects the efficacy of photodynamic therapy and photodynamic ...

Susceptibility and Resistance Mechanisms During Photodynamic Therapy of Melanoma

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2020
Melanoma is the most aggressive malignant skin tumor and arises from melanocytes. The resistance of melanoma cells to various treatments results in rapid tumor growth and high mortality.

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Combined 5‐aminolevulinic acid and ferric ammonium citrate treatment promotes hair follicle growth by activating dermal papilla cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair
