Light Switchable Ionic Conductivity of Arylazopyrazole Modified Polysiloxanes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We present a polysiloxane functionalized with a novel arylazopyrazole dye that undergoes reversible photoisomerization. Upon lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide addition and UV irradiation, the polymer exhibits a shift in tan(d) toward higher frequencies and enhanced ionic conductivity.

Synthesis and characterization of bis(4-amino-2-bromo-6-methoxy)azobenzene derivatives

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2019
Aminoazobenzene derivatives with four ortho substituents with respect to the N–N double bond are a relatively unexplored class of azo compounds that show promise for use as photoswitches in biology.

Schizophrenic molecules and materials with multiple personalities - how materials science could revolutionise how we do chemical sensing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Molecular photoswitches like spiropyrans derivatives offer exciting possibilities for the development of analytical platforms incorporating photo-responsive materials for functions such as light-activated guest uptake and release and optical reporting on

Phototunable Polarization Volume Gratings Driven by Chiral Hydrazone Switches

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Chiral hydrazone photoswitches incorporated into polarization volume gratings enable light‐driven, reversible modulation of optical properties. UV and blue light irradiation reversibly alter the hydrazone isomer ratio, leading to tunable diffraction efficiency and spectral response across the visible spectrum.

Photoswitchable NIR‐Emitting Gold Nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, 2016
AbstractPhoto‐switching of the NIR emission of gold nanoparticles (GNP) upon photo‐isomerization of azobenzene ligands, bound to the surface, is demonstrated. Photophysical results confirm the occurrence of an excitation energy transfer process from the ligands to the GNP that produces sensitized NIR emission.

Molecular Appendix Adjusted Architectural Propagations of Red‐Light Controlled Macroscopic Photoactuating Performances

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Amphiphilic chloroazobenzenes, bearing different amino acids as end groups alanine, phenylalanine, and valine, exhibit excellent photoisomerizations. Varying structures of three amino acid groups participate in supramolecular formations and therefore photoinduced morphological transformations via adjusting intermolecular interactions. These interaction

Design, Synthesis, Investigation, and Application of a Macromolecule Photoswitch

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2019
Azobenzene (AZO) has attracted increasing interest due to its reversible structural change upon a light stimulus. However, poor fatigue durability and the photobleaching phenomenon restricts its further application.

Optical Control of Metabotropic Glutamate Receptors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs), the largest family of membrane signaling proteins, respond to neurotransmitters, hormones and small environmental molecules. The neuronal function of many GPCRs has been difficult to resolve because of an inability to

Bidirectional Photoswitching of a Tailored Azobenzene with Red and Far‐Red Light Involving Triplet Sensitization in an Aqueous System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The action spectrum of a tailored azobenzene is shifted toward bio‐optical window through the chemical modification of its singlet and triplet energy levels. Consequently, the bidirectional photo‐switching of azobenzene in physiological conditions is achieved when excited by red and far‐red light, which offers greater tissue penetration.

Photoswitchable Sexithiophene-Based Molecular Wires [PDF]

open access: yesOrganic Letters, 2009
Photochromic sexithiophenes were prepared by oxidative electrochemical coupling of terthiophenes. The redox properties in the open state are typical of sexithiophenes. Ring closure of both photochromic units leads to a decrease in the energy of the LUMO orbitals with little affect on the energy of the HOMO orbitals.
