Electrophoretic applications of phycobiliproteins
ELECTROPHORESIS, 1998AbstractPhycobiliproteins are homologous chromoproteins which constitute the phycobilisomes, the light harvesting complexes of the photosynthetic apparatus in cyanobacteria, rhodophyta and cryptophyta. In the present work, phycocyanin (PC) and Phycoerythrin (PE) from a Nostoc species are proposed as protein markers for electrophoretic techniques ...

Cyanobacterial phycobilisomes and phycobiliproteins
Microbiology, 2015In cyanobacteria, phycobilisomes (PBS) act as antennae of the photosynthetic pigment apparatus. They contain brightly colored phycobiliproteins (PBP) and form giant supramolecular complexes (up to 3000-7000 kDa) containing 200 to 500 phycobilin chromophores covalently bound to the proteins.

Evolution of the Phycobiliproteins
Journal of Molecular Biology, 1995Amino acid sequence alignments and phylogenetic analyses have been used to examine the relationships among 100 phycobiliprotein sequences. The alignments revealed a number of highly conserved amino acid residues that are involved in chromophore attachment and conformation, alpha-beta interactions and phycobilisome assembly.

Fluorescent Neoglycoproteins: Antibody-Aminodextran-Phycobiliprotein Conjugates
Bioconjugate Chemistry, 1999New, highly amino-substituted dextran or aminodextran (hereafter denoted Amdex) of various sizes between about 20 and 1000 kDa molecular mass and degrees of amino-substitution between 7 and 40% were prepared and characterized by elemental analyses and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.

Diagnostic Applications of Phycobiliproteins
2020Phycobiliproteins (PBPs) are widely used as fluorescent detection system in both medical and non-medical diagnostics. This chapter focuses research arena with extensive coverage of patents and commercial products. Being unique and brilliantly colored proteinaceous photosynthetic accessory pigments of algal kingdom, they were mainly employed in the ...
