Progress, Applications, and Challenges of Amorphous Alloys: A Critical Review

open access: yesInorganics
Amorphous alloys, also known as metallic glasses, are a type of novel amorphous material discovered by chance. This discovery has greatly enriched the field of metal physics, spurred the rapid development of amorphous physics and materials science, and ...

Variation on thermal damage rate of granite specimen with thermal cycle treatment

open access: yesHigh Temperature Materials and Processes, 2019
Temperature significantly affects the physical and mechanical properties of granite. To have a comprehensive understanding of the thermal cycle effect on uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) and thermal damage rate, a series of thermal cycle experiments ...

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Influence of Furfurylation on Practical Properties of Beech Plywood [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Wood and Paper Industries, 2016
In this study, the influence of Furfurylation on practical properties of beech plywood investigated. Furfurylation of beech layers were performed by impregnation and heat catalyze up to 30% and 70% weight percent gain. Plywood specimens made by 2 resins (

Physical properties of outflows: Comparing CO and H2O based parameters in Class 0 sources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Context. The observed physical properties of outflows from low-mass sources put constraints on possible ejection mechanisms. Historically, these quantities have been derived from CO using ground-based observations.

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Improving the tensile strength of carbon nanotube spun yarns using a modified spinning process [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A modified process for the dry spinning of carbon nanotube (CNT) yarn is reported. The approach gives an improved structure of CNT bundles in the web drawn from the CNT forest and in the yarn produced from the twisted web leading to improved mechanical ...
