Coexisting frailty and depression associated with low physical activity and quality of life in Saudi community-dwelling older adults: a cross-sectional study

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health
BackgroundFrailty and depression are common conditions in older adults, but their coexistence and combined impact on physical activity and quality of life remain understudied, particularly in Saudi Arabia.ObjectiveTo examine the independent associations ...

Frailty and Physical Activity: Are all Physical Activity Variables Equal?

open access: yesThe Journals of Gerontology: Series A
Abstract Background Frailty, defined as diminished physiological and functional reserve, is linked to negative health outcomes such as falls, fractures, and disability. Physical activity dose plays a significant role in preventing and reducing physical frailty, but the influence of different PA ...

A BSCB‐Penetrating Nanoplatform for Enhanced Luteolin Delivery in PRMT2‐Targeted Epigenetic Therapy of Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this work, MSN‐BO@LUT penetrates the blood‐spinal cord barrier for luteolin delivery in spinal cord injury. The nanodrug suppresses neuroinflammation and promotes functional recovery of the spinal cord. Mechanistically, luteolin targets protein arginine N‐methyltransferase (PRMT2) to decrease toll‐like receptor 4 (TLR4) methylation, thereby ...

14‐3‐3γ Protects Against Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction by Regulating Tau Thr205 Phosphorylation and Synaptic Integrity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Integrative multi‐cohort analyses identify 14‐3‐3γ as a biomarker and regulator of cognitive vulnerability. Experimental studies show that 14‐3‐3γ loss is associated with Tau Thr205 phosphorylation, synaptic dysfunction, and cognitive impairment, while genetic overexpression or pharmacological stabilization of 14‐3‐3γ confers protective effects in ...

Frailty and prefrailty are associated with increased risk of aortic aneurysm but not aortic dissection: a prospective cohort study of UK biobank participants

open access: yesBMC Cardiovascular Disorders
Background Frailty is a well-established determinant of adverse outcomes in patients with aortic disease, but its role in incident aortic aneurysm (AA) and aortic dissection (AD) remains unclear.

Impact of subjective well-being on physical frailty in middle-aged and elderly Japanese with high social isolation.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Social isolation exacerbates physical frailty and is associated with subjective well-being. Even those with high levels of social isolation may have different health statuses depending on the type of isolation and their subjective well-being.

Ablation‐Immune Thermal Armor Via Microstructural‐Compatibility Design for Extreme Thermal Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study unveils a microstructural‐compatibility design strategy that integrates reactive melt infiltration with plasma spraying to fabricate carbon fiber‐reinforced ZrC‐SiC composites. The deliberate incorporation of SiC into the ZrC coating releases heat accumulation, suppresses detrimental lamellar ZrO2 formation, and reduces residual stress. This

An Injectable ROS‐Responsive Nanozyme Hydrogel Regulates the Uterine Microenvironment to Prevent Intrauterine Adhesions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The injectable CeTA@GPP hydrogel is administered via intrauterine injection, forming a protective barrier. In the high ROS inflammatory microenvironment of injured endometrium, boronate ester cleavage triggers responsive CeTA release and local enrichment.

Transient Sleep Deprivation Induces Persistent Auditory Neuropathy via ROS‐Initiated Neuroinflammation and BK Channel Suppression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Sleep disturbance severity closely tracks hearing loss in a clinical cohort, yet the mechanistic link remains unclear. Acute sleep deprivation is shown to trigger transient cochlear oxidative stress that switches into a self‐sustaining neuroinflammatory state, suppressing BK channels and causing irreversible synaptopathy.
