A brief clinical tool to assess physical function: The mini-physical performance test [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Gerontology and Geriatrics, 2010
The aim was to develop a brief physical performance assessment tool that can be reliably used to detect physical impairment in older adults with and without mild dementia. Scores on the 9-item physical performance test (PPT) from non-demented participants were used to develop and validate the 4-item mini-PPT.

Anaerobic Contribution Determined in Swimming Distances: Relation with Performance

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2017
Total anaerobic contribution (TAn) can be assessed by accumulated oxygen deficit, and through sum of glycolytic and phosphagen contribution which enable the evaluation of TAn without influences on mechanical parameters. However, little is known about the

15-item Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ-15): structural and criterion validity on patients with chronic low back pain

open access: yesBMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, 2022
Background The Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) is one of the most used instruments to measure self-reported disability in patients with low back pain, however, the uncertainty on which version to use may lead to inadequate disability ...

Walking speed and balance both improved in older Japanese adults between 1998 and 2018

open access: yesJournal of Exercise Science & Fitness, 2021
Background/objective: Physical function, the ability of an individual to carry out physical tasks, is meaningfully related to health among older adults. Few studies have analyzed temporal trends in objective performance measures of physical function for ...

Comparison of Human Interpretation and a Rule-Based Algorithm for Instrumented Sit-to-Stand Test [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Geriatric Medicine and Research, 2021
Background The five times sit-to-stand test (5STS) is one of the most commonly used tests to assess the physical performance of lower extremities. This study assessed the correlation between human interpretation (5STShuman) and a rule-based algorithm ...

van der Waals density functionals built upon the electron-gas tradition: Facing the challenge of competing interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The theoretical description of sparse matter attracts much interest, in particular for those ground-state properties that can be described by density functional theory (DFT).

Contribution of Physical and Motor Characteristics to Functional Performance in Children and Adolescents with Down Syndrome: A Preliminary Study

open access: yesMedical science monitor basic research, 2018
Background Down syndrome (DS) is the most frequent genetic mental disability. Individuals with DS experience a variety of physical, motor, and functional challenges throughout the lifespan.

Kinesiophobia and its correlations with pain, proprioception, and functional performance among individuals with chronic neck pain

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Chronic neck pain (CNP) incidence in the general population is high and contributes to a significant health problem. Kinesiophobia (fear of pain to movement or re-injury) combined with emotions and physical variables may play a vital role in assessing ...

Functional limitations and poor physical performance as independent risk factors for self-reported fractures in older persons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Objective: This study examined whether three aspects of functioning (i.e., functional limitations, physical performance, and physical activity) were associated with fractures in older men and women. Design: A 3-year prospective cohort study. Participants
