Widespread depolarization during expiration: A source of respiratory drive? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Respiration influences various pacemakers and rhythms of the body during inspiration and expiration but the underlying mechanisms are relatively unknown.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Physiological maturity of Physalis angulata L. seeds

open access: yesRevista Ciência Agronômica, 2019
Determination of seed physiological maturity allows predicting the most appropriate time for harvest, aiming to obtain seeds with high physiological potential. Physalis angulata (Solanaceae) has pharmacological and agro-industrial potential, but there is

Somatic embryogenesis and phase change in trees [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The advantages of clonai plantations are obvious for a lot of tree species. Somatic embryogenesis is a clonai propagation method with the greatest potential for achieving this goal, especially if combined to genetic engineering.

Biostimulant Effects of Seed-Applied Sedaxane Fungicide: Morphological and Physiological Changes in Maize Seedlings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Most crops are routinely protected against seed-born and soil-borne fungal pathogens through seed-applied fungicides. The recently released succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI), sedaxane®, is a broad-spectrum fungicide, used particularly to control ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.

Saturated salt accelerated aging and computerized analysis of seedling images to evaluate soybean seed performance

open access: yesJournal of Seed Science
Seed deterioration causes losses to seed companies during the storage. For researches, the challenge has been to develop techniques which improve the seed longevity as well as laboratory analysis methods required for evaluating the evolution of ...

Dielectric Potentials of Physiologically Active Substances [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1934
Some physiologically active substances change the surface tension very little and are probably adsorbed at tissue interfaces as they exhibit an action. It seems possible to explain their adsorption and action by supposing that they change the electrical potential on the interface of different dielectrics, influencing but little the surface tension ...
