Planting for healthy air: Urban biodiversity enhances natural chemical environments
Cities urgently need nature to improve public health, support biodiversity, and increase resilience to climate change. Yet not all green spaces offer the same benefits. In this study, we show that more diverse urban plantings create richer “chemical environments”; subtle, naturally scented atmospheres formed by plant emissions that can influence how ...

Leaf age influences metabolomic profiling but not bioactivity of Eucalyptus globulus essential oils. Leaf age affects volatile levels of young and adult E. globulus oils, but not their bioactivity. Young leaf essential oil had higher contents of α‐ and β‐pinene. AEEO had higher levels of 1,8‐cineole and trans‐pinocarveol.

The bio‐guided phytochemical study resulted in the new compound 17‐epi‐melianodiol. The compound eliminated 100% of Aedes aegypti larvae at 100 ppm, causing pronounced morphological changes, cuticular damage, and extensive vacuolization. Abstract BACKGROUND In Brazil, Aedes aegypti is the primary vector of arboviruses such as dengue, chikungunya ...

Behavioural manipulation of Psylliodes chrysocephala provides promising opportunities for sustainable pest management in oilseed rape systems. This review synthesises evidence on glucosinolates and their volatile isothiocyanate derivatives as phagostimulants and attractants, alongside the repellent or antifeedant effects of non‐host plants, plant ...

Host defence volatiles inhibit mountain pine beetle fungal symbionts in a compound‐ and enantiomer‐specific manner, with distinct dose–response profiles that reveal the multitarget chemical defences of beetle–fungi symbiotes. Abstract BACKGROUND The mountain pine beetle relies on symbiotic fungi to overcome host tree defences, yet these fungi must ...
