Phytoene Desaturase, a Target for Herbicidal Inhibitors
1989Phytoene desaturase catalyzes the insertion of two double bonds into the first carotene in a series leading to α- and s-carotene. In several fungi this key enzyme is responsible for light/dark regulation of carotenogenesis (1). Furthermore, it is the most important target for many bleaching herbicides (2).
