Accumulation and interaction of calcium and manganese in Phytolacca americana
Plant Science, 2009To further understand the hyperaccumulation of Mn, the present study investigated the accumulation of Ca and Mn and their interaction in Mn hyperaccumulator pokeweed (Phytolacca americana Linn.). Exogenous Ca was observed to have a distinctive impact on the Mn phytotoxicity and accumulation in pokeweed, but exogenous Mn had little influence on the ...

Accumulation and uptake of manganese in a hyperaccumulator Phytolacca americana
Minerals Engineering, 2007Abstract Phytolacca americana (pokeweed) has been found to be a new manganese hyperaccumulator plant by means of field surveys on Mn-rich soils and by Hydroponics experiments. This species not only has remarkable tolerance to Mn but also has extraordinary uptake and accumulation capacity for this element.

Isolation and characterization of a protease from Phytolacca americana
Phytochemistry, 1988Abstract A cysteine protease of M r 26 000 has been isolated in homogeneous form from the fruit juice of Phytolacca americana . The enzyme, named phytolacin, has a maximum activity in the pH range 7.5–9.0 and contains carbohydrate moiety. The substrate specificity of phytolacin differs from that of papain.

Manganese uptake and interactions with cadmium in the hyperaccumulator—Phytolacca Americana L.
Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2008In the present study, the accumulation of Mn and other metals by Phytolacca Americana L. from contaminated soils in Hunan Province, South China, was investigated. Results showed that the average concentrations of Mn in the leaves and roots reached 2198 and 80.4 mg kg(-1) (dry weight), respectively, with a maximum 13,400 mg kg(-1) in the leaves.

Bioactive Triterpene Saponins from the Roots of Phytolacca americana
Journal of Natural Products, 2008Five new triterpene saponins named phytolaccasaponins N-1 (1), N-2 (2), N-3 (3) N-4 (4), and N-5 (5) were isolated from the roots of Phytolacca americana together with seven known triterpene saponins (6-12). The structures of the five new saponins were established as shown in structures 1-5 on the basis of their spectroscopic data.

[Tissue culture and rapid propagation of Phytolacca americana].
Zhong yao cai = Zhongyaocai = Journal of Chinese medicinal materials, 2009To explore the technique of rapid propagation for Phytolacca americana.Aseptic seedling were used as explants. The best explants were the stems from strong aseptic seedling. The optimal culture media were MS + NAA (0.2 mg/L) +6-BA (1.0 mg/L) for primarily culture, MS + NAA (0.2 mg/L) +6-BA (2.0 mg/L) for the induction of clustered shoots 1/2MS with NAA ...
