RNA virus modulation of IFN, PI3K and apoptosis

open access: yes, 2009
Interferon (IFN) and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) are apoptosis regulators that are targeted by viruses to promote survival of infected cells.

Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

Immunoblotting analyzes of protein expression of IGF-1-PI3K-AKT-mTOR pathway from gastrocnemius muscle.

open access: yes, 2018
The protein levels of GAPDH shown at the bottom of each immunoblot were used to normalize by the protein levels of each immunoblot shown at the top. Three independent experiments are shown and separated according to the treatment, indicated with a color ...

PI3Ks in Lymphocyte Signaling and Development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Lymphocyte development and function are regulated by tyrosine kinase and G-protein coupled receptors. Each of these classes of receptors activates phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K). In this chapter, we summarize current understanding of how PI3K contributes to key aspects of the adaptive immune system.

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Identifying gene expression signatures for risk stratification of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in colorectal cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A novel signature integrating genome‐wide analysis with clinical factors predicts recurrence in stage II colorectal cancer and enables a new risk stratification to guide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical risk stratification for postoperative recurrence in patients with pathological stage II (pStage II) colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential ...

Editorial for the Research Topic "Targeting PI3K/mTOR signaling in cancer" [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/mTOR pathway integrates signals from growth factors with nutrient signals and other conditions and controls multiple cell responses, including proliferation, survival and metabolism.

Dual inhibition of PI3K and mTOR by VS-5584 suppresses thrombus formation

open access: yesPlatelets, 2018
VS-5584 is a highly selective dual kinase inhibitor which suppresses phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) and mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) activity.
