Animal Picobirnavirus [PDF]

open access: yesVirusDisease, 2014
Picobirnavirus (PBV) is a small, non-enveloped, bisegmented double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) virus of vertebrate hosts. The name ‘Picobirnavirus’ derives from the prefix ‘pico’ (latin for ‘small’) in reference to the small virion size, plus the prefix ‘bi ...

Identification of picobirnavirus from faeces of Italian children suffering from acute diarrhea [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Epidemiology, 1996
Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of nucleic acid extracted from stool samples of diarrhoeic children revealed in 3 out of 690 (0.43%) specimens two electrophoretic bands with a migration pattern characteristic of picobirnavirus ds-RNA.

Identification of a bisegmented double-stranded RNA virus (picobirnavirus) in calf faeces

open access: yesVeterinary Journal, 2003
To determine the incidence of rotavirus infection among dairy herds in the State of Sdo Paulo, Brazil, 576 faecal samples obtained from calves aged 1-45 days with and without diarrhoea, reared on 63 dairy cattle farms, were analyzed.

Picobirnavirus causes persistent infection in pigs

open access: yesInfection, Genetics and Evolution, 2010
A study aimed to further understand the biology of porcine picobirnaviruses (PBV) was conducted between November 2003 and January 2008, on a farm located in the outskirts of Córdoba City, Argentina. PBV prevalence was examined by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and silver staining (PAGE S/S) on a total of 265 samples collected from pigs divided into

Circulation of picobirnavirus in Neotropical free-ranging mammals

Veterinary Research Communications, 2023
Picobirnavirus (PBV) is a family of non-enveloped double-stranded RNA viruses with bisegmented genomes. Segment 1 encodes the capsid protein and segment 2 encodes RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. They exhibit high genomic heterogeneity and infect a wide range of vertebrate hosts, including humans. The objective of this study was to expand our knowledge of

Complete nucleotide sequences of two RNA segments of human picobirnavirus

Journal of Virological Methods, 2005
Picobirnaviruses are unclassified, non-enveloped, spherical, small viruses with a genome comprising two double-stranded RNA segments. Only incomplete sequence data on picobirnaviruses are available so far. By cloning involving single primer amplification, full-length cDNAs were prepared corresponding to RNA segments 1 and 2 of a picobirnavirus (strain ...

Genomic characterisation of the large segment of a rabbit picobirnavirus and comparison with the atypical picobirnavirus of Cryptosporidium parvum

Archives of Virology, 1999
The 2362 base pair sequence of the larger of the two double stranded RNA genome segments of a rabbit strain of picobirnavirus (PBV) has a major open reading frame (ORF) of 591 amino acids and two smaller ORFs of 55 and 155 amino acids. A clone of the segment did not hybridise with other viral bisegmented ds RNAs from faecal samples.
