Study of Collagen Birefringence in Different Grades of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma Using Picrosirius Red and Polarized Light Microscopy

open access: yesScientifica, 2015
Objectives. The present study was done to evaluate birefringence pattern of collagen fibres in different grades of oral squamous cell carcinoma using Picrosirius red stain and polarization microscopy and to determine if there is a change in collagen ...

Polarized microscopy with picrosirius red: potential for reproducible burn depth grading [PDF]

open access: yesPhotonics in Dermatology and Plastic Surgery 2025
This research explores the challenges in accurately classifying burn severity and the limitations associated with traditional histology-based model training. Histology, often considered the gold standard for determining burn wound severity, typically employs stains like Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) and Masson's Trichrome.

Histological image quantification of picrosirius red stained skeletal muscle sections v1

open access: yes, 2022
Picrosirius Red (PSR) staining of skeletal muscle tissue sections permits histological evaluation of muscle fibrosis: muscle fibres are stained a vivid picric acid yellow, while connective tissue is stained a vibrant Sirius red. Connective tissue can also be visualised via brightfield, fluorescence or polarized light microscopy, but no standard ...

Targeting extracellular DNA to deliver IGF-1 to the injured heart. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
There is a great need for the development of therapeutic strategies that can target biomolecules to damaged myocardium. Necrosis of myocardium during a myocardial infarction (MI) is characterized by extracellular release of DNA, which can serve as a ...

Injectable Dual‐Network Hydrogel System for Osteochondral Repair Combining Immunomodulation, Mechanical Adaptability, and Enhanced Tissue Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A UV‐triggered injectable dual‐network hydrogel is reported as the first application of bletilla striata polysaccharide (BSP) in osteochondral repair. By integrating methacrylamide‐modified BSP and nitrobenzaldehyde‐functionalized hyaluronic acid, the system achieves immunomodulation, mechanical reinforcement, and dynamic tissue adhesion, thereby ...

New approaches to studying morphological details of intramolluscan stages of Angiostrongylus vasorum

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Parasitologia Veterinária, 2020
Angiostrongylus vasorum is a pulmonary artery parasite of domestic and wild canid. On molluscs, intermediate host, first stage larvae (L1) are found after the first day of infection, in the 8th L2 and in the 30 th L3.

Macrophages and Galectin 3 Control Bacterial Burden in Acute and Subacute Murine Leptospirosis That Determines Chronic Kidney Fibrosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Previous studies have suggested that macrophages may contribute to acute Leptospira dissemination, as well as having a major role in kidney fibrosis. Our aim was to characterize the role of macrophages and galectin 3 (Gal-3) on the survival, clinical ...

Precise Control of Drug Release in Machine Learning‐Designed Antibody‐Eluting Implants for Postoperative Scarring Inhibition in Glaucoma

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We developed a micro‐sized, biocompatible implant for postoperative sustained delivery of anti‐fibrotic antibodies in glaucoma surgery. Machine learning‐guided optimization of polymer composition, implant geometry, and porosity enabled precise control of drug release.
