Optimizing 3D Bin Packing of Heterogeneous Objects Using Continuous Transformations in SE(3)
This article presents a method for solving the three‐dimensional bin packing problem for heterogeneous objects using continuous rigid‐body transformations in SE(3). A heuristic optimization framework combines signed‐distance functions, neural network approximations, point‐cloud bin modeling, and physics simulation to ensure feasibility and stability ...

Piecewise smoothness for linear elliptic systems with piecewise smooth coefficients
Li and Vogelius, and Li and Nirenberg obtained piecewise $C^{1,γ}$-regularity for linear elliptic problems with piecewise $C^γ$-coefficients which come from composite materials. In this paper, we obtain piecewise $C^{m+1,γ}$-regularity for linear elliptic systems with piecewise $C^{m,γ}$-coefficients which also come from composite materials.

Equilibrium Propagation for Dissipative Dynamics
This work develops local learning rules for damped linear dynamical systems, including mechanical structures and resistor‐inductor‐capacitor (RLC) circuits, by leveraging an effective action formulation. It demonstrates how physical systems can autonomously compute gradients and learn temporal patterns, enabling applications such as sound ...

Convex superposition in piecewise-linear systems
AbstractPiecewise-linear systems of the type that arise in relay servomechanisms or problems involving Coulomb friction, which are usually regarded as nonlinear, are shown here to exhibit linear behavior in some circumstances. Specifically, for certain sets of input signals (or forcing functions) and associated responses, the responses are linear in ...

An instance‐level, model‐agnostic explanation of class differentiation is introduced through SHAP‐LCD, linking probability shifts to feature‐wise Shapley contributions. The method operates on tabular and image data and is released in a fully reproducible implementation, offering a transparent way to examine, at each instance, why predictive models ...

Piecewise Linear Control Systems
This thesis treats analysis and design of piecewise linear control systems. Piecewise linear systems capture many of the most common nonlinearities in engineering systems, and they can also be used for approximation of other nonlinear systems. Several aspects of linear systems with quadratic constraints are generalized to piecewise linear systems with ...

A unified, reusable modeling pipeline enables task‐driven design of soft robots across actuator families and task scenarios. High‐fidelity simulations are compressed into compact pseudo‐rigid‐body joint surrogates, while a design‐conditioned meta‐model generates new surrogates from geometry parameters without rerunning finite element method.

Direct solution of piecewise linear systems
Let $S$ be a real $n\times n$ matrix, $z,\hat c\in \mathbb R^n$, and $| z|$ the componentwise modulus of $z$. Then the piecewise linear equation system $$z-S| z| = \hat c$$ is called an \textit{absolute value equation} (AVE). It has been proven to be equivalent to the general \textit{linear complementarity problem}, which means that it is NP hard in ...

Accounting for animal health in efficiency analysis: An application to Swedish dairy farms
Abstract Poor animal health is a central concern in modern livestock production. Despite the necessity to incorporate animal health in efficiency analysis, the theoretical and empirical developments are limited on this subject. This article appropriately characterizes the axiomatic properties of animal health within a production framework.
