The Red Queen unveils the sexual and mating strategies of flowers

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 5, May 2026.
Although the conventional wisdom is that floral traits of plants evolved in concert with their mutualistic pollinators, here we showed that several key sexual and mating traits of plants, which modulate their outcrossing strategy, evolved in response to the pressure exerted by their antagonistic insect herbivores.

Kronecker Coefficients For Some Near-Rectangular Partitions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We give formulae for computing Kronecker coefficients occurring in the expansion of $s_{\mu}*s_{\nu}$, where both $\mu$ and $\nu$ are nearly rectangular, and have smallest parts equal to either 1 or 2.

Skew Schubert functions and the Pieri formula for flag manifolds

open access: yes, 1997
We show the equivalence of the Pieri formula for flag manifolds and certain identities among the structure constants, giving new proofs of both the Pieri formula and of these identities.

Year‐round pollinator visitation of ornamental plants in Mediterranean urban parks

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 19, Issue 3, Page 702-715, May 2026.
Pollinators visiting ornamental plants in urban parks remained diverse throughout the year. They were represented by wild bees (42%), honeybees (37%), flies (18%), butterflies (2%) and beetles (1%). Both native and non‐native plants attracted pollinators.

Time to Hang Up the Gloves: A Scoping Review of Evidence on Non‐Sterile Glove Use During Intravenous Antimicrobial Preparation and Administration

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Nursing, Volume 82, Issue 5, Page 4593-4609, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Aims To systematically summarise evidence related to the use of non‐sterile gloves when preparing and administering intravenous antimicrobials. Design Scoping review. Methods A rigorous scoping review was undertaken following Arksey and O'Malley's (2005) framework and the modified Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta ...

Pieri rules for skew dual immaculate functions

open access: yesCanadian Mathematical Bulletin
AbstractIn this paper, we give Pieri rules for skew dual immaculate functions and their recently discovered row-strict counterparts. We establish our rules using a right-action analogue of the skew Littlewood–Richardson rule for Hopf algebras of Lam–Lauve–Sottile. We also obtain Pieri rules for row-strict (dual) immaculate functions.

Three Closely Related Spodoptera Species Similarly Affect Gene Expression and Phytohormone Levels but Differentially Induce Volatile Emissions in Maize

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, Volume 49, Issue 5, Page 2394-2412, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Plants can perceive specific elicitors in the oral secretions (OS) of herbivorous insects and respond by increasing their defences. Whether plants can discriminate among similar herbivorous insect species and differentially modulate their defence responses against them is largely unknown.

GWAS identifies regulators of seed and leaf morphology in common bean, revealing OFP5 as a major seed size determinant

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 126, Issue 3, May 2026.
Significance Statement Seed and leaf phenomic traits, including morphology and spectral features, play key roles in consumer preference and plant performance. Here, we conducted a genome‐wide association study of 71 phenomic traits, identifying 73 high‐confidence quantitative trait locus and 114 candidate genes.

Contravariant form for reduction algebras and Pieri rule

open access: yes, 2017
We study properties and constructions of contravariant forms on reduction algebras. As an application we compute norms of highest weight vectors in the tensor product of an irreducible finite dimensional representation of the Lie algebra gl(n) with a symmetric or wedge tensor power of its fundamental representation. Their zeroes describe Pieri rules.
