The dna vaccine combining the adjuvant porcine il-12 with the spike gene of transmissible gastroenteritis virus enhances the immune response in swine [PDF]
Transmissible gastroenteritis (TGE), cause by transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), is an acute digestive and highly infectious disease in piglets. In this study, porcine interleukin-12 immunological adjuvant combined with a DNA vaccine bearing the

The bone marrow is commonly present in the medullary cavity of long bones in most mammals at birth. In the present study, the persistence of the osseous tissue was examined in the medullary cavities of piglet bones at and after birth. Immediately after birth, medullary cavities of long bones were almost completely filled with the spongy bone.

Body composition and blood parameters of newborn piglets from Alentejano and conventional (Large White × Landrace) genotype [PDF]
This study aimed to compare the body composition and some blood parameters [(glucose, albumin and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1)] of newborn piglets farrowed by unselected Alentejano (AL) or conventional genotype [Large- White Landrace (LL ...

Preweaning mortality in piglets in loose-housed herds: etiology and prevalence
Preweaning mortality in piglets is a welfare issue, as well as an ethical and economic concern in commercial pig farming. Studying the causes of preweaning mortality and their prevalence is necessary to reduce losses.

The challenge of large litters on the immune system of the sow and the piglets.
The use of hyperprolific sow lines has increased litter size considerably in the last three decades. Nowadays, in some countries litters can reach up to 18-20 piglets being a major challenge for the sow's physiology during pregnancy, parturition and ...
