Red pigment epithelium of fish eyes
Journal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 1984The eyes of characins (Characidae), pike, pickerel (Esocidae) and wrasses (Labridae) have a red pigment epithelium. There is no melanin, the epithelial cells containing red particles (erythrosomes). These are tiny cylinders in the cell processes, and spherules in the cell bases.

Primary adenocarcinoma of pigmented ciliary epithelium in a phthisical eye
Survey of Ophthalmology, 2016We report a case of adenocarcinoma of the pigmented ciliary epithelium arising in a phthisical eye. A 92-year-old man who initially presented with severe ocular pain had calcification extending from the posterior pole to ciliary body on B-scan ultrasonography to a degree not previously reported.

Selective Destruction of the Pigmented Epithelium in the Ciliary Body of the Eye
Science, 1974Perfusion of the internal carotid artery with hypertonic solution selectively destroys most of the pigmented epithelium of the ciliary body of the monkey eye, converts fenestrated endothelium of capillaries to continuous endothelium, and transiently breaks down the blood-aqueous barrier.

To determine the concentration of pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) in the aqueous humor of eyes with neuroretinal dystrophy.Observational case series.Aqueous humor was obtained from patients during cataract surgery, and the PEDF concentration in the aqueous humor was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

Proliferating Pigment Epithelium
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1967A snail-like formation of pigment epithelium with interstitial layers of hyalin-like substance was observed in the subretinal fluid of an eye with long-standing secondary detachment. This spiral formation is thought to be formed by the growth of either free-floating daughter cells of proliferated pigment epithelium or a druse that separated from the ...

[Glutathione peroxidase activity of frog eye pigment epithelium].
Biokhimiia (Moscow, Russia), 1981A highly active glutathione peroxidase (80% of which is localized in the water-soluble fraction) was detected in frog eye pigment epithelium tissue. It was shown that more than 75% of the glutathione peroxidase activity of the pigment epithelium tissue is bound to the Se-dependent enzyme.

Culture experiments with eye anlages of mouse embryos were performed to study developmental traits of the neuroepithelial cells of the prospective pigment epithelium in the eye anlage of pigmented mice. Between the neural plate stage on embryonic day 8 (ED 8, developmental stage 12) and the neural tube stage on embryonic day 9 1/2 (stage 15), the ...
