Beyond the next step: A multi‐criteria generative validation framework for step selection functions
Abstract Step‐selection functions (SSFs), typically fitted using step‐selection analysis (SSA) or integrated step‐selection analysis (iSSA) are widely used to infer habitat selection and movement kernels from high‐frequency telemetry data, but most standard validation tools focus on one‐step‐ahead prediction and do not guarantee that fitted models ...

Intestinal mucins play a crucial role in the mucosal barrier, serving as the body’s initial defense against microorganisms. However, how the host regulates the secretion and glycosylation of these mucins in response to bacterial invasion remains unclear.

Philippine Pili: Composition of the lipid molecular species
Background/Purpose: The pili tree is indigenous in the Philippines and can easily grow in tropical countries. This research work investigated the potential of pili pulp and pili nut oils for use in the nutraceutical and food industries.

Genome wide expression profiling reveals suppression of host defence responses during colonisation by Neisseria meningitides but not N. lactamica. [PDF]
Both Neisseria meningitidis and the closely related bacterium Neisseria lactamica colonise human nasopharyngeal mucosal surface, but only N. meningitidis invades the bloodstream to cause potentially life-threatening meningitis and septicaemia.

Structural basis of host recognition and biofilm formation by Salmonella Saf pili
Pili are critical in host recognition, colonization and biofilm formation during bacterial infection. Here, we report the crystal structures of SafD-dsc and SafD-SafA-SafA (SafDAA-dsc) in Saf pili.

Chasing the perfida Albione: Anglo‐Italian productivity gap in the late 1930s
Abstract This paper presents new estimates of Anglo‐Italian labour productivity levels in manufacturing in the late 1930s, derived using the standard single‐deflation approach. The findings confirm a substantial productivity gap between Italy and the United Kingdom at the aggregate level, alongside pronounced intersectoral heterogeneity.

The ‘porin-cytochrome’ model for microbe-to-mineral electron transfer [PDF]
Many species of bacteria can couple anaerobic growth to the respiratory reduction of insoluble minerals containing Fe(III) or Mn(III/IV). It has been suggested that in Shewanella species electrons cross the outer membrane to extracellular substrates via ‘
