Calcifications in pituitary adenomas

In a surgical series of 755 pituitary adenomas, 51 cases (6.75%) showed intratumoral calcifications on microscopic examination and 13 of these were visible on roentgenographic examination (1.72%). Thirty-eight of these 51 cases were prolactinomas, the highest incidence being in male patients. There was no correlation between age, sex, levels of hormone,

Multihormonal Pituitary Adenomas

66 pituitary tumors detected at autopsy were investigated for the presence of corticotropin, β-lipotrophin, growth hormone, prolactin, thyrotropin and gonadotropins by immunocytochemistry. 56 tumors contained hormone-producing cells; 45 were found to contain 2 or more hormones.

We analyzed the frequency, manifestation, course, and biology of these tumors before, during, and after puberty in 136 children younger than 20 years old at surgery, identified by review of 2230 patients treated from 1969 to 1993.
