Molecular organization of the desmoglein-plakoglobin complex
Journal of Cell Science, 1998ABSTRACT Different epithelial intercellular junctions contain distinct complexes incorporating plakoglobin. In adherens junctions, plakoglobin interacts with two molecules, the transmembrane adhesion protein of the cadherin family (e.g. E-cadherin) and α-catenin.

Reduced plakoglobin immunoreactivity in arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy: methodological considerations
Cardiovascular Pathology, 2013Arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy (AC) primarily is considered to be a desmosomal disease with a predominant right ventricular phenotype. Reduced signal intensity for junctional plakoglobin (JUP) at the intercalated disks has been proposed as a marker that contributes to diagnosis of the disease.

Plakoglobin expression and localization in zebrafish embryo development
Biochemical Society Transactions, 2004Plakoglobin (γ-catenin) and β-catenin are major components of the adherens junctions and can be localized to the nucleus by activation of the Wnt signalling pathway. In addition, plakoglobin is also found in desmosomes, a vertebrate-specific cell–cell adhesion structure.
