Statistical Study of Geoeffective Fe XV 28.4 nm Emission Bursts and Their Influence on Ionospheric Total Electron Content During the Late Phase of Solar Flares

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 131, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Recent studies have demonstrated that warm coronal emissions during the extreme ultraviolet late phase (ELP) of X‐class solar flares can be sufficiently strong to also affect electron density in the Earth's ionosphere. The Fe XV 28.4 nm line was identified as one of the most geoeffective emissions produced during the ELP.

Characterizing Dislocation Substructures in Creep‐Deformed Olivine Using Electron Channeling Contrast Imaging

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Olivine is the dominant mineral in Earth's upper mantle and therefore controls the rheological behavior of the mantle and the mechanics of plate tectonics. The constitutive laws for dislocation‐mediated deformation of olivine depend on the nature, density, and arrangements of dislocations within crystals.

Predator‐guild‐specific parental responses mitigate higher predation risk on ground nests close to forest patches in a mosaic landscape

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 95, Issue 7, Page 1151-1162, July 2026.
Predation increases close to habitat edges, but how animals cope with local predation variations remained poorly studied. In a mosaic landscape, lapwings were compensating for increased nest predation close to forests. They acted more aggressively towards an avian predator when nesting close to trees, but comparatively tamer against a mammal.

Goby gummies: A customizable and edible assay to quantify predation in aquatic ecosystems

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 17, Issue 7, Page 2092-2103, July 2026.
Abstract Predation is a critical ecosystem process that shapes the structure and functioning of biological communities. However, due to its intermittent nature, fast pace and general unpredictability, predation is difficult to observe and quantify. Therefore, we commonly rely on indirect metrics or proxies of predation, which reflect the outcome of ...

Do Coexisting Cryptic Species of Predatory Peacock Bass (Cichliformes: Cichlidae) Partition Their Niche?

open access: yesEcology of Freshwater Fish, Volume 35, Issue 3, July 2026.
ABSTRACT The mechanisms facilitating coexistence of cryptic species in sympatry have long puzzled ecologists. Cryptic species have nearly identical morphology and, therefore, would be presumed to have high niche overlap and potential for interspecific competition and competitive exclusion when resources are limited. Lowland rivers in South America have
