Enhanced Size Uniformity for Near-resonant Planets

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Super-Earths within the same close-in, compact planetary system tend to exhibit a striking degree of uniformity in their radius, mass, and orbital spacing, and this “peas-in-a-pod” phenomenon itself serves to provide one of the strongest constrains on ...

Testing a hypothesis of the ν Octantis planetary system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We investigate the orbital stability of a putative Jovian planet in a compact binary \nu Octantis reported by Ramm et al. We re-analyzed published radial velocity data in terms of self-consistent Newtonian model and we found stable best-fit solutions ...

De Novo Autogenic Engineered Living Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A versatile platform for de novo autogenic engineered living materials is presented, leveraging protein mining, computational modeling, and synthetic biology. By reprogramming the Escherichia coli curli machinery with β‐solenoid proteins from non‐model bacteria, macroscopic biomaterials with enhanced mechanical properties, UV‐C irradiation protection ...

Streaming Torque with Turbulent Diffusion

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Fast type I migration of (proto)planets poses a challenging problem for the core accretion formation scenario. We found that the dust-induced “Streaming Torque” (ST) may slow down or even reverse the planet migration in Q. Hou & C. Yu.

The diversity of planetary system architectures: contrasting theory with observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In order to explain the observed diversity of planetary systems architectures and relate this primordial diversity with the initial properties of the disc where they were born, we develop a semi-analytical model for computing planetary system formation ...

Electrochromic Adaptive Solar Heater and Sub‐Ambient Passive Daytime Radiative Cooler

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An electrochromic Cu–Bi nanocluster device dynamically switches between solar heating and daytime sub‐ambient radiative cooling without mechanical motion. Defect‐activated graphene, minimized electrolyte loss, and pulse‐assisted reversible electrodeposition enable opposite solar and mid‐infrared modulation in one opaque platform, establishing a design ...

Subarcsecond Multiline Observations of NH3 with VLA toward the Class 0 Source IRAS 16293−2422

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Ammonia (NH _3 ) is one of the key volatiles that plays a central role in nitrogen chemistry and its evolution during the epoch of star and planet formation.

VLT/NACO astrometry of the HR 8799 planetary system - L′-band observations of the three outer planets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Context. HR 8799 is so far the only directly imaged multiple exoplanet system. The orbital configuration would, if better known, provide valuable insight into the formation and dynamical evolution of wide-orbit planetary systems. Aims.

Formation of Protoplanet Systems and Diversity of Planetary Systems

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2002
We investigate the formation of protoplanet systems from planetesimal disks by global (N = 5000 and 10,000 and 0.5 AU 2. The growth timescale increases with a but decreases with Σ1. Based on the oligarchic growth model and the conventional Jovian planet formation scenario, we discuss the diversity of planetary systems.
