From waste to resource: Effects of digested rotten potato supernatant on the growth, total biomass and nutrient composition of Chlorella vulgaris

open access: yesHeliyon
A study was carried out to evaluate the growth performance of Chlorella vulgaris, a green microalga, in three different concentrations of digested rotten potato supernatant (DRPS) for 16 days. C.

Hydro-plankton characteristics and their relationship with sardine and anchovy distributions on the French shelf of the Bay of Biscay

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2006
The spatial pattern in hydro-plankton and fish distributions and their relationship were analysed based on the spring 2000 fisheries acoustic survey. The importance of this survey was that it was a multi-disciplinary platform which collected an extensive

Inhibitory Activity of Cinnamomum cassia Essential Oil on Yersinia enterocolitica. A Challenge Test on Sous‐Vide Cooked Deer Meat

open access: yesFlavour and Fragrance Journal, EarlyView.
Cinnamomum Cassia essential oil on Deer Meat after inoculation with Yersinia Enterocolitica. ABSTRACT This study assessed the effectiveness of minimal processing techniques on red deer meat, specifically examining the preservation potential of vacuum‐sealed samples combined with Cinnamomum cassia essential oil (CCEO) to inhibit contamination by ...

Bacterial social interactions in synthetic Bacillus consortia enhance plant growth

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
Inoculation with plant growth‐promoting rhizobacteria SQR9 enhances cooperative behaviors and compatibility within the microbial community, promoting plant growth. Building on these interactions, synthetic Bacillus consortia were designed based on phylogenetic relationships and social cooperation, where moderately related consortia exhibited stronger ...

The Fragility of Plankton

open access: yes
When there is a natural disaster at sea, such as the Exxon Valdez in Alaska (1989) or the Prestige in the NW Spanish coast (2002), we all immediately worry about seabirds, turtles, and dolphins and how the disaster will affect fisheries. On television, we are flooded with images of black birds, covered in oil, and dead fish on beaches.

Assessment of Factors Contributing to Infection Severity and High Levels of Drug Resistance in Clinical Enterococcus Isolates

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, Volume 39, Issue 14, July 2025.
E. faecalis was the predominant species (60.7%). Moreover, 39.3% of the isolates were identified as VRE with an MIC > 32 μg/mL, and the vanA gene was detected in 35.7% of the isolates. High‐level resistance to gentamicin and streptomycin was observed in 60.7% and 50% of the isolates, respectively.

The oomycete Lagenisma coscinodisci hijacks host alkaloid synthesis during infection of a marine diatom

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
Flagellated oomycetes frequently infect unicellular algae, thus limiting their proliferation. Here, the authors show that an oomycete rewires the metabolome of a marine bloom-forming diatom, thereby promoting infection success.

Simulating the onset and spread of anoxic conditions during Cretaceous OAE2 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A new model of the global atmosphere-ocean-continent-mantle system was set-up to investigate the triggering of the Oceanic Anoxic Event OAE2 through volcanic degassing processes at large igneous provinces (LIPs).
