Heavy metal tolerance in plants: Role of transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and ionomics

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2016
Heavy metal contamination of soil and water causing toxicity/stress has become one important constraint to crop productivity and quality. This situation has further worsened by the increasing population growth and inherent food demand.

Plant-parasitic nematode disease complexes as overlooked challenges to crop production

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Plant diseases are caused by various microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, and nematodes. These diseases impact crop growth, reduce produce quality, and lead to financial losses.

Sustainable rubber production through good latex harvesting practices: stimulation based on clonal latex functional typology and tapping panel management [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The purpose of this study was to characterize the long-term behaviour of the rubber tree under different ethephon stimulation treatments and under different panel management strategies.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Rice (Oryza) hemoglobins [v2; ref status: indexed, http://f1000r.es/4vp]

open access: yesF1000Research, 2014
Hemoglobins (Hbs) corresponding to non-symbiotic (nsHb) and truncated (tHb) Hbs have been identified in rice (Oryza). This review discusses the major findings from the current studies on rice Hbs.

Impacts of elevated temperature and vapour pressure deficit on leaf gas exchange and plant growth across six tropical rainforest tree species.

open access: yesNew Phytologist
Elevated air temperature (Tair) and vapour pressure deficit (VPDair) significantly influence plant functioning, yet their relative impacts are difficult to disentangle.

Acclimation responses of Arabidopsis thaliana to sustained phosphite treatments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Phosphite () induces a range of physiological and developmental responses in plants by disturbing the homeostasis of the macronutrient phosphate. Because of its close structural resemblance to phosphate, phosphite impairs the sensing, membrane transport,

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
