Structure‐forward targeting of claudins with synthetic binders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Claudins form the paracellular barriers between epithelial and endothelial tissues at tight junctions and are targets for molecular binders with the goal of modulating barrier permeability. Claudin‐binding molecules are relevant in drug delivery or in altering claudin interactions with disease‐causing proteins.

The depuration fate of the mixtures of CdS/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) with different surface coatings on mangrove and wheat root epidermis: results from a novel method

open access: yesEnvironmental Sciences Europe, 2019
Background The depuration fate of mixtures of metal-based quantum dots (QDs) in root epidermis is an important factor that determined their follow-up transportation and transformation processes in plant.

Study of the anatomical structure of the herbal raw materials of Achillea micranthoides Klok. et Krytzka

open access: yesAktualʹnì Pitannâ Farmacevtičnoï ì Medičnoï Nauki ta Praktiki, 2020
Herbal raw materials and herbal drugs derived from it constitute a complete material if they comply with current regulatory documents. This compliance is determined by pharmacognostic analysis.

The microbiome in human skin aging

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐related skin changes encompass the well‐known visible phenotypic alterations, together with microbiome dysbiosis and a series of molecular aging hallmarks. These hallmarks characterize not only a fully stablished aged phenotype but also the skin aging process itself.

Singlet oxygen makes plant epidermis thicker with less stomata

open access: yes, 2022
Abstract Singlet oxygen (1O2) has a very short half-life of 10−5 s; however, it is a strong oxidant that causes growth arrest and necrotic lesions on plants1–4. Its signaling pathway remains largely unknown. The Arabidopsis flu (FLUORESCENT) mutant accumulates a high level of 1O2 and shows drastic changes in nuclear gene expression5.

UV‐excited chlorophyll fluorescence as a tool for the assessment of UV‐protection by the epidermis of plants [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2001
Recently, a new method for estimating epidermal transmission of UV radiation in higher plants has been proposed. The empirical evidence for the usefulness of this method is reviewed here. Direct comparison with spectroscopically determined epidermal transmission yielded equivalent results.

Anatomical variations in stomatal attributes of selected species of family Asteraceae

open access: yesCommunications in Plant Sciences, 2016
In order to document stomatal characters which are significant in taxonomy, a detailed microscopic study on leaf epidermis of the selected taxa from Asteraceae was carried out. The plant species were Sonchus oleraceus, Bidens bipinnata, Centaurea iberica,

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Onion epidermis as a new model to study the control of growth anisotropy in higher plants [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Botany, 2009
To elucidate the role of cellulose microfibrils in the control of growth anisotropy, a link between their net orientation, in vitro cell wall extensibility, and anisotropic cell expansion was studied during development of the adaxial epidermis of onion (Allium cepa) bulb scales using polarization confocal microscopy, creep tests, and light microscopy ...
