Competition models for plant stems [PDF]
The models introduced in this paper describe a uniform distribution of plant stems competing for sunlight. The shape of each stem, and the density of leaves, are designed in order to maximize the captured sunlight, subject to a cost for transporting water and nutrients from the root to all the leaves.

Oscillation frequencies of tapered plant stems [PDF]
Free oscillations of upright plant stems, or in technical terms, slender tapered rods with one end free, can be described by considering the equilibrium between bending moments in the form of a differential equation with appropriate boundary conditions.

Measuring the compressive modulus of elasticity of pith-filled plant stems. [PDF]
The compressional modulus of elasticity is an important mechanical property for understanding stalk lodging, but this property is rarely available for thin-walled plant stems such as maize and sorghum because excised tissue samples from these plants are ...

Sparse dynamic tomography: a shearlet-based approach for iodine perfusion in plant stems [PDF]
In this paper we propose a motion-aware variational approach to reconstruct moving objects from sparse dynamic data. The motivation of this work stems from x-ray imaging of plants perfused with a liquid contrast agent, aimed at increasing the contrast of

Correlation of microbiomes in “plant-insect-soil” ecosystem
IntroductionTraditional chemical control methods pose a damaging effect on farmland ecology, and their long-term use has led to the development of pest resistance.MethodsHere, we analyzed the correlations and differences in the microbiome present in the ...

The developmental patterns of many organisms are orchestrated by the diffusion of factors. Here, we report a novel pattern on plant stems that appears to be controlled by inhibitor diffusion.

Effects of Fertilizer Source and Rate on Zinnia Cut Flower Production in a High Tunnel
Sustainable nutrient management in high tunnel production is critical for optimizing crop yield and quality and improving soil health. In this study, we investigated the influence of different pre-plant composts (composted broiler litter, vemicompost ...

Utilization of Calathea Lutea Stem as Part Material [PDF]
Calathea Lutea is a plant that is often found in Indonesia. Calathea Lutea is usually only used as an exterior plant because it has a wide leaf shape and a strong stem structure. If further investigated, the strength of the stem structure of the Calathea
