Effects of insulin, glucagon, and epinephrine on the plasma membrane of the white adipose cell: a freeze-fracture study

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1976
A quantitative study of the adipocyte plasma membrane under the influence of lipolytic or lipogenic hormones has been carried out by freeze-fracture. The number of plasma membrane invaginations (so-called pinocytosis) and of intramembranous particles was

PICALM::MLLT10 translocated leukemia

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This comprehensive review of PICALM::MLLT10 translocated acute leukemia provides an in‐depth review of the structure and function of CALM, AF10, and the fusion oncoprotein (1). The multifaceted molecular mechanisms of oncogenesis, including nucleocytoplasmic shuttling (2), epigenetic modifications (3), and disruption of endocytosis (4), are then ...

Experimental measurement of endocytosis in fungal hyphae. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The present study examines the notion that polarized exocytosis in the tips of growing hyphae creates an excess of plasma membrane and thus the need for its removal by endocytosis.

Cellular mechanisms for cargo delivery and polarity maintenance at different polar domains in plant cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The asymmetric localization of proteins in the plasma membrane domains of eukaryotic cells is a fundamental manifestation of cell polarity that is central to multicellular organization and developmental patterning.

Multiple plasma membrane reporters discern LHFPL5 region that blocks trafficking to the plasma membrane

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
The mechano-electrical transduction (MET) channel of the inner ear receptor cells, termed hair cells, is a protein complex that enables our senses of hearing and balance.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Diet-dependent immunohistochemical evaluation of connexin 43 in the sheep rumen [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The objective of this study was to characterize the immunohistochemical localization of plasma membrane connexin 43 in the rumen of sheep after changing the diet from hay (ad libitum) to a mixed hay/concentrate diet.

Quantitative changes in adipocyte plasma membrane in response to nutritional manipulations.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1981
The effects of changes in adipocyte size and the effects of nutritional manipulations on the quantity of plasma membrane per adipocyte were investigated. A method for estimating the quantity of plasma membrane was developed based on the specific labeling

Pore-Spanning Plasma Membranes Derived from Giant Plasma Membrane Vesicles

open access: yesACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, 2021
Giant plasma membrane vesicles (GPMVs) are a highly promising model system for the eukaryotic plasma membrane. The unresolved challenge, however, is a path to surface-based structures that allows accessibility to both sides of the plasma membrane through high-resolution techniques. Such an approach would pave the way to advanced chip-based technologies

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
