Alterations in vascular function in primary aldosteronism - a cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Introduction: Excess aldosterone is associated with increased cardiovascular risk. Aldosterone has a permissive effect on vascular fibrosis. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) allows study of vascular function by measuring aortic ...

Cardiovascular Health in Women—Across the Lifespan

open access: yesClinical Endocrinology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of mortality and morbidity among women worldwide. However, CVD continues to be perceived as a predominantly male issue. CVD in women therefore remains understudied, underrecognized and undertreated.

Arterial hypertension in patients with systemic connective tissue diseases and hemorrhagic vasculitis

open access: yesТерапевтический архив, 2010
Aim. To study the specific features of 24-hour blood pressure (BP) profile and its association with plasma renin activity in patients with systemic connective tissue diseases and hemorrhagic vasculitis (HV). Subjects and methods.

Inhibition of Trophoblast-Induced Spiral Artery Remodeling Reduces Placental Perfusion in Rat Pregnancy. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Rats harboring the human angiotensinogen and human renin genes develop preeclamptic features in pregnancy. The preeclamptic rats exhibit a deeper trophoblast invasion associated with a reduced resistance index by uterine Doppler.

Radioimmunoassay of plasma renin activity.

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1976
Abstract We describe a sensitive, simplified radioimmunoassay method for determination of plasma renin activity. Plasma was acidified to the optimal pH (6.0) of angiotensin l generation with the least possible dilution, by using a single addition of hydrochloric acid and the enzyme inhibitor hydroxyquinoline.

Diabetic kidney disease, biomarkers, and finerenone

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Diabetic kidney disease (DKD), the leading cause of kidney failure worldwide, is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). A complex pathobiology involving hemodynamic, metabolic, and immune dysregulation promotes inflammatory and fibrotic pathways that contribute to kidney disease progression and CVD in individuals ...

Effect of empagliflozin on urinary albumin excretion and hypoxic biomarkers in early diabetic kidney disease: A randomised double‐blind, placebo‐controlled trial

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Aims The precise mechanism of sodium glucose co‐transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor on reno‐protective effect has been still unclear. In this study, we hypothesised that SGLT2 inhibitor prevents diabetic kidney disease via reduction of hypoxia‐induced factors.
