Comparative genomic analysis of two novel plasmids from Acidithiobacillus ferrivorans strain PQ33
Acidithiobacillus ferrivorans is a psychrotolerant acidophile capable of growing and oxidizing ferrous and sulphide substrates at low temperatures. To date, six genomes of this organism have been characterized; however, evidence of a plasmid in this ...

As small, mobilizable replicons with a broad host range, IncQ plasmids are widely distributed among clinical and environmental bacteria. They carry antibiotic resistance genes, and it has been shown that they confer resistance to β-lactams ...

The spread of carbapenemase-producing Enterobacterales (CPE) is a global concern. While the majority of the CPE outbreaks are due to clonal spread, recent findings highlight the transmission of carbapenemase gene-carrying plasmids across various ...

Carbapenemases: Transforming Acinetobacter baumannii into a Yet More Dangerous Menace
Acinetobacter baumannii is a common cause of serious nosocomial infections. Although community-acquired infections are observed, the vast majority occur in people with preexisting comorbidities. A. baumannii emerged as a problematic pathogen in the 1980s

The rise and spread of mcr plasmid-mediated polymyxin resistance
Polymyxins are important lipopeptide antibiotics that serve as the last-line defense against multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacterial infections. Worryingly, the clinical utility of polymyxins is currently facing a serious threat with the global

Plasmid-to-plasmid recombination in Haemophilus influenzae [PDF]
No recombination between plasmids was observed after conjugal transfer of a plasmid into a cell carrying another plasmid. Two types of such recombination took place after transformation, one type being Rec+ dependent and suggesting a preferred site of recombination. The other much rarer type was at least partially Rec+ independent.
