Growth factors for clinical-scale expansion of human articular chondrocytes : Relevance for automated bioreactor systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The expansion of chondrocytes in automated bioreactors for clinical use requires that a relevant number of cells be generated, starting from variable initial seeding densities in one passage and using autologous serum.

Circulating tumor cells: advancing personalized therapy in small cell lung cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is an aggressive form of lung cancer that spreads rapidly to secondary sites such as the brain and liver. Cancer cells circulating in the blood, “circulating tumor cells” (CTCs), have demonstrated prognostic value in SCLC, and evaluating biomarkers on CTCs could guide treatment decisions such as for PARP inhibitors ...

Effects of Non-Collagenous Proteins, TGF-β1, and PDGF-BB on Viability and Proliferation of Dental Pulp Stem Cells

open access: yeseJournal of Oral Maxillofacial Research, 2016
Objectives: The dentin matrix servers as a reservoir of growth factors, sequestered during dentinogenesis. The aim of this study was to assess the viability and proliferation of dental pulp stem cells in the presence of dentin matrix-derived non ...

Role of platelet-derived growth factor B in cholesterol and glucose metabolism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGFB) is a critical molecule for recruiting pericytes. Due to the fundamental role of the pericytes in angiogenesis and vascular stability, PDGFB knockout mice die perinatally from severe hemorrhage and edema.

Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) trajectories predict survival in trifluridine/tipiracil‐treated metastatic colorectal cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The authors applied joint/mixed models that predict mortality of trifluridine/tipiracil‐treated metastatic colorectal cancer patients based on circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) trajectories. Patients at high risk of death could be spared aggressive therapy with the prospect of a higher quality of life in their remaining lifetime, whereas patients with a ...

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.

White cell and platelet content affects the release of bioactive factors in different blood-derived scaffolds

open access: yesPlatelets, 2018
Platelet-derived factors are biomaterials that might accelerate healing process in oral, maxillofacial, and several other applications. Release of specific factors by platelet concentrates is critical to achieving a successful outcome.

Improved Biomarker and Imaging Analysis for Characterizing Progressive Cardiac Fibrosis in a Mouse Model of Chronic Chagasic Cardiomyopathy

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2019
Background Chronic chagasic cardiomyopathy (CCC), caused by Trypanosoma cruzi infection, is an important public health problem attributable to progressive cardiomyopathy in patients, for which there is no cure.

Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

RhPDGF – Basic Characteristics and Potential Application in the Oral Surgery – An Overview

open access: yesActa Medica Bulgarica, 2020
Growth factors (GFs) are bioactive molecules participating in organ development, tissue regeneration and repair. They are protein molecules with a relatively low molecular weight and are released by activated platelets.
